I need help with a game
Austin Presley  Account Info

My hobby happens to be TI-89 basic programming and I got it finished except for the pictures please E-mail me pictures of anything that would seem like it would have to do with a game called Pimp2K3 but the pictures will have to be in TI-89 format. Also please send me your email, number and name so I can contact you if you want.

Re: Game Ideas -- Diablo??
Brad Wilke  Account Info

I hate to say it, but games get old fast. One game I find myself playing often though is the great Diablo. I hesitate to say it, but I think it needs to be on my calculator(TI-89) so I can play it in classes. I was thinkink along the lines of a mix of Diablo and DiabloII. We, anyone interested, should get something together to make this wonderful game "handheld". Perhaps my head is in the clouds, but I have loads of free time now and always wanted to make a good game. I know extensive C++ and am trying to learn TIGCC aqap. If anyone would like to take on this challenge with me and be honored and remembered as part of the team that brought Diablo to calculators please let me know. Any comments would be helpful, even the ones that say I'm an idiot for bringing this up.

BASIC is alot more powerful than people think. sure, you couldn't make the whole game... but you could easily make a very nice title screen (perhaps one including the flaming 'Diablo' logo) and even create a save/load feature run entirely in BASIC. the reason i bring thing up (despite the fact you mentioned knowledge of C++) is that if the very first part of the program were in basic, all required to run it would be to hit the Prgm button and click on the program. BASIC is capable of running ASM programs, and i'm sure ASM is capable of starting Flash if that's required.

I agree, and you could also use the DRAW functions to create nice levels. Just have the characters on the pxl grid and the level terrain on the pt grid. Draw is better than Output.

I could help some. I know Ti-89 basic and have TIGCC but don't know how to use it yet. I program in C++ and Java, though, so it won't be too hard to learn.

I think making Diablo is an awesome idea. Unfortunately, I can only program for the TI-83+ but recently got a TI-89. I was wondering if anyone knows of some really good, completed RPGs out for the TI-89. I can only find demos and half completed RPGs. And keep going with Diablo, I know I'd play it.

I reccommend not testing that. I found out the hard way. I think it also messed up somthing else. Whenever I turned on my calculator after that it cleared the RAM and turned off again. I never did figure it out. Anyhow it was fairly new so I called TI and got a new one.

It erased your ram?? Did you program it or did you download a program for it? I made a program to make a blue screen (just to test it) and it worked fine, although I did turn it off after about 2 seconds.

What kind of games do you mean? Assembly or Basic? There are some good tutorials for assembly in the ticalc archives, under programming, I think.

FYI, text games get BORING FAST (no offense) i will recomend that you just spend more time on learning how to make at least a simple game on the home screen.

I downloaded it from ticalc.org.

It also messed some other stuff. I hear that this can also result from too many OS failures. Anyhow, I don't recommend it.

I guess the ROM chip can easily be corrupted. Too bad it's not possible to re-program the entire calc. I think it had somthing to do with the BIOS maybe.

I made a program the makes the entire screen blue. Obviously in ASM but it also starts to leak ink from the screen and lines appear outside the square of pixels. I always turn calc off after 2 sec. because it can easily cause permanent damage.

I made a program the makes the entire screen blue. Not just changing contrast, acually making it the color blue. Obviously in ASM but it also starts to leak ink from the screen and lines appear outside the square of pixels. I always turn calc off after 2 sec. because it can easily cause permanent damage.
