TI-Chess v4.00 released
Posted by Niklas on 11 November 2002, 16:31 GMT

TICT have released TI-Chess v4.00 for the TI-89, TI-92+ and V200. The most important improvements are:

  • Multilanguage support (english/french/german/spanish).
  • Opening book support: now the engine can randomly choose openings from a book if wanted.
  • Training feature rewritten: now chess puzzles may come with an intregrated solution.
  • Chess puzzle compiler completely rewritten: making own chess puzzles files is much easier now.
  • Opening book compiler added: you can make your own opening books if wanted.

The first volume of TI-Chess puzzles has also been released (TI-89, TI-92+, V200) and if that's not enough, you can also get 2014 opening lines (TI-89, TI-92+, V200).

TICT keeps updating their other programs, too: there is a new version of the TICT-Explorer, also for the TI-89, TI-92+ and V200.

2014 opening lines!? I can't possibly be rejected by that many women! Sweet, gotta try these out.

Oops- forgot that I can't get (+1, Funny) on ticalc.org.

It's part of the moderation system on Slashdot (link). A "+1" moderation increases the score of your post by 1, while "-1" does the opposite. The moderation system on /. is the reason that trolls (such as the "first post" one on this very page) are pretty much invisible to most users. People moderate these crap posts as "-1" until their score is just too low to be displayed.

I'm simplifying here, but you get the idea.

Okay, so they have different scoring type things for each post, or is it one universal score for each post that covers everything?

Off the top of my head...

+1 Moderations
Funny
Informative
Insightful
Interesting

-1 Moderations
Offtopic
Flamebait
Troll
Redundant

There's also +1 Underrated and -1 Overrated.

And one can only moderate if enough people moderate that one person's posts up enough. And moderations have to be meta-moderated fairly, or the moderation doesn't stick.

Or lead a crusade to implement a moderation system on ticalc.org. Unfortunately, there are about 20 good reasons why that wouldn't work- there's probably not enough of a user base to moderate, there would be just too much abuse (probably even with metamoderation), etc.

@rmohr: Thanks for the link. I figured that if I mentioned Over/Underrated, someone would ask "what's that?" and I'd get sucked in to a looong discussion on the history of the mod system :)

Yeah, but none of them use their real names. I'd be scared if anyone called their kid 'chickendude' or 'Lord_Nightrose'.

Yeah ... it was in the previous news article ... everybody was claiming that Kerm's mouse driver wouldn't work because he was loading a 16-bit number into a 16-bit register. And, of course, only Micahel Vincent had the authority to set things straight.

The people here are being too immature for him. Guys, it's time to grow up. I may soon abandon TICalc, if for no better reason than the fact that I'm 20 years old and I *still* post here with a bunch of little children.
