i would get an 89 or a 92+ so i can test my multi-player games (3-4 players, which VTI can't simulate) (that, and the link port on my 89 is really hard to get to work)

How do you link more than 2 calculators together?

I'm not positive on how it works, but i think you can play multiple calculator gamers over the internet throught the graph-link. Either that, or there's some kind of splitter you can use to connect mulitple calculators.

If I were to get a new calculator, I'd probably get an 86, just so I could see how it compares with the 89 and the 83+. If not, I'd get one of the HP one's just to see how HP compares with TI.

I don't know if it would be possible to play games over the internet, because the graph link cable is slower than the calc-to-calc cable, and this is already a bit slow(especially for 3 or 4 player games).
But a kind of a hub would sure be possible.

Yea, I bet it is....

...BUT HOW?

Nobody seems to know how, but everybody seems to know it's possible... Isn't there anyone investigating that? How can it be that there is no programmer really interested in such an interesting gadget as a link-hub?

My friend's dad is a computer programmer and he made a link cable/graphlink thing for my friend, and I'm pretty sure that is you know how to make a link cable, it wouldn't be that hard to make one for three to four people (or maybe make it like they are for GBAs, you connect them. Maybe you have this | link cable and this __ one. you hook 'em like |__)
Well, I don't know...

Speaking of all this linking more than two calculators together, wouldn't you need software (i.e. actual GAMES) that would work with this? If anyone knows of such games already in existance, you could probably ask the PROGRAMMERS of these games how to get such multi-link devises, as they are likely to have them themselves. Of course, it is entirely possible to write a game for more than two people without actually having such a device, but WHY WOULD YOU DO IT? You couldn't even test it for bugs to see if it would WORK!

I just got a TI-89 as a reward for good grades. I put it in my closet. I'll get it out for calculus in a few years. I've heard that they really ruin pre-calculus.

I'll stick to my trusty TI-83+, thank you.

Let the flaming begin:

I would start using the 89 now. Half the people in my school have them but have no clue how to use them. Even I, who can find my way around the 82, 83, 83+, and 86, have some trouble with it.

Or you could use it as a paperweight.

My sources tell me that TI-89s taste like chicken when roasted in an oven for four hours at 400 degrees fahrenheit. Can you confirm?

At least take the time to learn how to use the TI-89. There are many awesome function that calculator does, and it takes awhile to discover its true potential. It does have some nice games as well.

A 89 will ruin precalculus for you because if you use it, you're not going to be learning any of the theory behind limits, derivatives, integrals, etc. Then when you get to calculus you will be stuck with using the calculator for everything...

Not neccarilly true. I learned things from simply using my 89 of some of the rules. But I have my calc do step by step prossess. He's a rule of thumb if you wanna use it in precal. Use it like a ti-83. Don't use any of it's 'special' funtions. Just make sure you can do work without it by hand! I have used my ti-89 since Algebra 2.

Well if you use it like a 83, then for all purposes it is a 83, which I wasn't refering to :)
