I meant to say TI83+SE actually. The rest I already have more or less. And a Voyage is something for next year.

I would get an 83+ because i have a 92+ and that would make the voyage and 89 a waste of money for me

Why would you get an 83+, they can't do jack. Even the 86 can do more than the 83+. They are popular but in my opinion they are nothing compared to 89 and up!

That is kind of ... obvious. If the 83 series were more advanced than the 89 series, then there must have been something seriously mixed up over at TI's.

And I already have an 89. I just want to play with that Silver Edition calculator.

I'd get an 89. About the 83+, in my opinion, the reason they're so popular is that:
a)it's what most middle/high schools use
b)they're cheaper
c)there are more games (not exactly better, but more nevertheless)
d)now they have most of the functions 89s have
e)they have a simplistic appeal and they're good for the novice programmer

I still agree that 89s are good, if not better (I like the programming options; they have non-flickering GREYSCALE!!!)

Anyways, I'm satisfied with my 83+, but I wouldn't mind an 89...

I found a 83+ program, just the other day, that allows you to create non-flickering greyscale pics aswell, or at least, that's what the inventor claimed.

Can't tell for shure. Haven't tried yet.

Ti-85 and up have a different type of LCD driver (hardware) that allows you to make the screen flicker much faster. So fast, in fact, that you can't see it's flickering and you think it's grey. The good 'ol Ti-83 doesn't have that driver, so it is theoretically impossible to keep greyscale from flickering.

But who knows, maybe there is a brilliant programmer somewhere out there who can :-).

I can't remember, but after a lot of searching on my harddrive I found it and discovered that it was for 83+. Sorry for giving you hope :-).

Other greyscale routines for 83 can ofcourse be found in ticalc.org's archives. But they usually flicker quite a lot.

And if it was my response that interested you, the correct translation is something like:

"If that's dutch; no, I don't think it is very risky. Although greyscale often crashes on the newer Ti-83 models, but you shouldn't buy that crap; the old design is much more beautiful :-)."

If there's one thing you should know about math, then it's the fact that everything is possible. Even if at first sight it seems not, it still is.
Calculating the (pseudo-)inverse of a non-square matrix is done through the singular value decomposition. But there isn't any function on the 89 for that either, is there?

OK rephrase: everything is theoretically possible. Not being able to write down Pi in decimals, is because of a limitation in the way of how decimals are represented, not because math doesn't allow it. Pi is just Pi as square root 2 is just square root two and not 1,41...

At first we learned that you couldn't do things like 2-4. Then we found out you can. Then they said you couldn't do sqrt(-1). Then we found out you can. Then they say you can't do arccos(x) when abs(x)>1.... I'm sure there's more, but I haven't learned of them yet.

Also, explain how to find the "pseudo-inverse" of a 3x4 matrix, and I'll write a function to do it.

an 89 is the highest level ti calc u can take on the SAT. it has a generally better and significantly faster processor as well as several times more room for games, which are of quite high quality and refinement. an 89 may have a higher learning curve, but its functionality is immense. once you are used to navigating between applications and dropdown menus, the features will save anybody much time. there is also a bit of exclusivity which also helps to ensure that usually experienced, skilled programmers work with such a calc to create more advanced programs for it.

however, i did start with an 83+ and enjoyed it immensely--especially for its simplicity. but i have never regretted purchasing my electronically 89 (and perhaps a voyager in the future:)
