Yes, I lend it out. But ONLY IF the person needs it. I like to protect my calculator, to a certain extent.

i lend mine out only because i'm the only person whi actually knows stuff about the calc in my class and i'm the only person with a graphlink cable which means that i have the games and am too lazy to send them to the other persons calc. plus i like linux and i'm making a flash animation to make fun of my class. today i made naomi (the fat annoying kid cry), i mean come on she's in grade 12, because of a sheet of ideas that i could have them doing in the flash animation. not only that but all of the stuff on the sheet were true. of course this has nothing to do with lending out calcs but i just wanted to tell everybody cause i'm a jackass.

I generally don't lend out my calc because most of the time they hand it back saying: "Where are the games?"
Reply: "Hidden and password protected, why?'
"...aw"
80% of the time that happens. That plus people are just too lazy to put games on their calc, COME ON, they've graphlinks too - why not use them?!
...as for the flash animations, f*ck you, that sh*t is just not acceptable. In most cases, if you upload it, it's illegal to do that: "The use of telecommunications in an offensive manner is illegal."

i'm mostly hesitant to lend out my calc because nobody in my class knows anything about them so i'm the only person with a clue as to how to use them. but anyways you people may have noticed that mariov 2.0 for the ti-83+ is no longer available for download on ticalc.org due to various reasons. so i got the file and submitted it to calcgames.org for anybody that was looking for it but couldn't find it. i gave credit to the authors and i only submitted it, i had nothing to do with the creation of the program! so i just wanted to let people know where they can find it.

I'm pretty hesitant to lend out my calculator too. I only lend it out to two of my friends, each of whom will neither break it, or lose it.

Games? Ha. I don't put games on my calculator often. I do distribute those that are mine though....

Flash movies? I hate flash movies that make fun of people. I bet you downloaded your version of Flash off of KaZaA too, eh?

Why is it that no1 seems to know anything about calculators, even though there required for school?
I was making a simple flib based basic program and someone asked me if I could "quickly" show them how to make games. People are always playing games (occasionally mine--most of which I cant post for innapropriate content) and they never have any idea about the effort it takes to create them.

Well you got to imply that a lot of people who want a calculator care less how a game is made and really don't have the patience to learn how to make the graphics and all of that. Yes we may be smart but we cannot overestimate other peoples ability to keep up.

This is so true. People with no knowledge about the inventions of man think that it is just there to entertain us when stuff like the Internet have been a global revolution to everyone in the world. I know what your talking about. Some person comes up to me and askes me how to make games. I tell them look online. As for the innapropriate programs, I can also relate, i made a whole pen15 series for my perv friends, they're kinda funny. I hate when people are always asking to play games on my calc, GET YOUR OWN CALC IF YOUR ONE OF THOSE LOSERS! DONT COMPLAIN IF I DONT HAVE A GAME YOU LIKE, GET YOUR OWN!

When I get asked that question, I usually go straight into some long complex-sounding programing terms that's jibberish to them and silly to us (I hardly evn use complete sentenses), which keeps their attention for about 3.2 seconds, then they leave thinking I'm the smartest guy around. Plus, they leave me alone, so it works.

1. Yes, all the time
2. Yes, but only if the person really needs it
3. Yes, although I'm hesitant to do so
4. Yes, though I give them one of my expendable calculators
5. No, no one ever asks to borrow my calculator

All of the above answers would work for me...

1 and 4. I practically gave my 83+ to my brother...he's almost the only one who uses it, but I still need it for tests in my math classes (stupid non-illiterate teachers that know that the 89 is superior...)

2. I let my sister use my 89 "ONLY IF IT"S SOMETHING THAT CAN'T BE DONE ON PAPER!"

3. Every once in a while my brother (the one who "owns" the 83+) asks for my 89, and I let him, but sometimes I get the feeling he might sell it...yes, sell it...you don't know my brother.

5. School's out now, and my other brother has his own 89, so he doesn't need to borrow mine anymore, although the other one will still "own" the 83+.

BTW, if any of you are wondering why I don't just give him the 83+, it's because I use it for leverage when I want something ;). "If you don't let me use your counterstrike game on XBox live, then you can't use my 83+ anymore!" "fine...go ahead..."

Actually, I can't think of anything mathematical that can't be done with pencil and paper. Even graphing and geometry stuff... get graph paper, a straight edge, and a compass. Hehe, tell your sister that ;-)
Well... I can understand needing a calc for trig functions and logarithms, and stuff like that, but for most everything else, you shouldn't _need_ a calculator. Just look at tests like the AIME--they won't let you use a calculator. *cry*

I'm surprised your brother won't get his own TI-83+. Then he wouldn't have to worry about borrowing yours all of the time. Heh, is this the same brother that got a message from me on his web blog, or was that the other one? *snicker*

I found that the AIME was a little more about logic than math.
But even really mathy stuff doesn't *need* a calculator. In my Advanced Math and Calculus classes, we pull out the calcs just to explore some neat property or see a graph in action or something. Even stastistics can go without a calculator; it'd just be really long handed for all the accuracy.
Only if you need your answers in decimal form and you have no trig or log or root tables do you really need a calculator.

Yeah, it is the same brother. That was funny...And, yeah , I think the AIME is only logic as well. There may be a few things when a calculator would help (read: give you the answer), but the point of those problems is to get you to think of another way to solve it...the ones with "to the power of 2004" or something like that for example...

Oh, and what stinks, is that brother of mine who I love sooo much (yeah, right), well, he took away my OTHER precious (not the calculator, the xbox) for 10 WHOLE DAYS! I can't even play our PS2, because the 1st player controller port won't work! I was sooo mad when I found out. So, yeah, let me know your cs name! Anyone else that plays as well....
