Ummm... Why not? We're geeks and nutso anyway, so we can only reinforce that suspicion. I myself am famed at my school for calculators (I AM tech support), Gollum imitations, Elvish (on the inside of my class ring), and general Mac-fanaticness.

Speaking of Walmart...isn't the TI-89Ti out by now? I need to get to Target to spend the $35 I earned at the MathCounts competition for one...

Yes, I've just checked the TI web page, and TI-89 Titanium is indeed out. It wasn't in stock at Target yet though. Now I'm just waiting for the ticalc.org news article about it to pop up.

Dude...it costs more than $35. It is out I'm pretty sure. Could have sworn there was a news post saying 84plus/silver was out along with 89titanium.

It does cost more than $35 dollars. But I gotta use that gift card before it runs out...so why not on a new calculator?

Well, before, the TI-89 Titanium site on education.ti.com said that it was "coming in Summer 2004" in bright orange text below the words "TI-89 Titanium". Now, that little message is gone, so I assumed...

Also, several people have informed me that it was due to come out June 1st.

Same here. Ever since somebody stole my TI-89... well, I've become much more protective over my calculators. I will let somebody that I trust borrow the calculator if they really need it, but only if I can supervise them with it the whole time. Also, I don't like to have somebody who knows a lot about them to use it because they could get into my files and stuff.

Hehe, but everybody now knows, if you touch my calculator, you die. *evil laugh*

You can do sound on calcs, like in Music Station. Just write a password-protect program that beeps if the password is wrong twice in a row. I've never used music station or programmed with sounds so I don't know how loud they are, but it could be done.

Don't you have to hook up headphones or point your calc at a radio?

How do you hear sound on a calc anyways? Are there special speakers or headphones you buy, or a convertor or something?

Yeah. You can get a head phone jack that will fit in the port or you can hold it near an AM radio.

its duct tape, unless youre talking about the brand Duck Tape, in which case it should be capital. And no im not being a grammar/spelling nazi (i think), im just pointing out a common misconception.

Actually it was originally duck tape as it was meant for waterproofing ammunition boxs. Then someone discovered it was good for ducts and the name was changed. I think that the Duck Tape people just named themselves "Duck" to be different or something like that.

I make duct tape wallets for people at my church! For a small ($5) fee of course...once I even made a duct tape purse, and also did one of those clear "window" things for a drivers license in a wallet using saran wrap. I loved that...made sooo much money. But not as much as at my new job...

Just lend an old z80 calculator. it doesnt matter if they get stolen. at school; people always sell them for about 20 dollars or so. if they get stolen rip somemore off people.

QUESTION: is anyone elses teacher not letting them use 68K calks on the exams?

My chem teacher won't let us use any graphing calculators on the final (because you could store the whole periodic table on there if you wanted, lol). But for everything else math-related, yes, we can use any calc (even 68k).

My teacher lets me, but I must admit he probably shouldn't. I got through the entire first half of my algebra final using factor( solve( expand( and just using the magic of AMS.

By the way, I dont think I could use a non-graphing calc any more. I just cant grasp the non-equation format and the lack of variables. (then again, I can barely use a z80 anymore) :)

ON TAKS? (texas assessment on knowledge and skills) NOO! It ticked me off 'cause TI has not made a calc guard for the school to put on my calculator to use. So what I had to do? USE THE SCHOOLS CALCS! Luckily they were 83+'s. Another thing to keep in mind, they install Calc Guard , right? Well the teacher just blows the calculator away anyway.... so no test guard because the Texas Education Department says to CLEAR THE CALCS! So what is the gay idea! I SHOWD MY MATH TEACHER EVERY FILE AND THE RESET AND NOTHING WAS THERE!
So at times, I do regret i got a TI 89. Of course, I did e-mail TI how upset I am... ;(

I am lucky because there are only two 68k calculators in the school...

And my teachers don't even know how to reset it....they just hit [2nd][+][7][right][right][1][2] really quickly, because they think my TI89 is a TI-83+.
