I'm willing to lend my 89 out, though I tend to be very hesitant when I do. For example, today in physics someone asked to borrow my calculator to do one calculation, and I stalled for ten seconds deciding whether or not to lend it.

I absolutely HATE when people ask me to lend them my calclulator, especially since I am not only the only person in a 4000-student school that owns two of them, and one of only a handful that owns a TI-89.

Are you kidding? Most people here have a TI-89 because <will_get_flamed> it's the best calculator that TI made </will_get_flamed>.

The only reason more people have TI-83+SE's is because the marketing for them is better... and stuff. TI advertises for the TI-83+SE (now 84+SE) all the time. Just go to their site. What do you see on the front page? The TI-84+SE. Teachers use them in class, so kids use them as well. It's just the way it is. :(

Most people don't ask me anymore because I don't have games. When I bring my 89 though, everyone that knows about it wants to play the new version of Monoply. <plug type="shameless">E-mail me for a new copy</plug>

Most people ask to use my calculator so that they can play games after a math test. Unfortunately, they know how to get past the password, thanks to a *friend*. So whenever they ask now, I smile and give them my CASIO scientific calculator.

I actually thought about buying one just to try to program it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Too busy working on my Star Trek game for the 83+.

1. It has a tiny screen
2. It has miniscule keys
3. It's this weird shade of dark grey
4. It almost an ENTIRE INCH THICK

and 5. You have to go through a MENU (a menu!) just to get to the main screen where you do basic math calculations (OK, that one isn't about looks, but still.)

Casios are ridiculous. Last year, on my first day of chemistry class, a friend was talking to the teacher about his new Casio graphing calculator and the teacher said, "It's not a calculator, it's a Casio." I tried using that stupid thing a few times and couldn't figure out how to add on it...you know you have a poor product when a geek can't figure out how to use it.

I keep mine password protected as well.

No, it's not that they know my password. It's that they keep deleting the file that stores the password. I simply enable the "prompt password after APD" on my MirageOS and then use [ON] to turn the calc off. When it turns back on, it asks for your password. However, the password is stored in the MirageOS AppVar, so when they delete it, it immediately renders password protection useless. As to how they get to the memory screen in the first place...well, they pull out the batteries. Yes, I have some very determined friends.

group all your games and store a few in RAM... that'll give them a nasty surprise. nobody ever thinks to look under grouping.

Yeah, I was doing that for a while...but right now I have exactly 6509 bytes of Flash ROM left on my TI-83+ (NOT SE!) due to the 4 Apps and 20-odd random programs/games I have stored on my calc...so there's really no room to store a group file.

I have the same problem, not enough archive space on normal 83+. I also found that if you send them your app vairable and click to overwrite their app vairable then it delets their pass.
I haven't done this to my friends bro just because he wouldnt let me play a game, and I didnt screw up his calc for that as payback! ;-)

So turn it off on the home screen, and set Mirage to block the mem menu and to require a password for using it. That way, they can use it as a calculator, but not play games or get around the password (very easily at least).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you lend out your calculator to anyone?

No, that doesn't work either, because Omnicalc is installed on my calc, and it also has a "memory protection thing". If you toggle that and the MirageOS option for "block mem menu from access", they somehow cancel out (don't ask how because I don't know) and so they can access the memory menu. Delete *MirageOS AppVar = they can get in.

As a joke my friend installed all of the password protection things on MirageOS. It was realy annoying but then I discovered the only usefull purpose of Omnicalc. :)

I had a 83+ stolen. When I first got a new SE, I used Krolypto and it was good, until I wanted to use Omnicalc/Symbolic and now, to protect my games, I use the MOS Command Prompt GUI that NOBODY can use except me!

Me, too. Everyone knows how to start Mirage from the homescreen (ON+APPS), and I don't bother with passwords, so they start Mirage and freak "How do you get this to work?!?!?!" I calmly repossess my calculator and smoothly begin to play Paper Plane (which everyone is obssessed with), as they watch, dumbfounded. R+PAPER+<Enter>. Bam.

LOL, the one I made? Haha, I really should make it so you can change the password. The password I have set is kind of obvious (to some). (Although you could edit the program and recompile it if you wanted... I think I did give out the source)

LOL That was a daily battle for me as well in high school. I was one of 10 people in the whole school of 1000 students that programmed games. everyone else just played them.

Speaking of 3d engine, I have to start mine for my star trek game... (check link above)
