Would you really be a NETWORK? A single, standalone server would be more than enough, since the trafic probably won't exceed 2000 users.

I, for one, would not be interested. Ticalc.org is great, and is the primary source for my programs and calc news. But, let's face it.. The maturity level of the TI community is legendary..who wants to chat with them exclusively about calculators?

hey. I'm plenty MATURE and kinda normal. So what if i'm a computer person? here: let me write something from "Revenge of the Nerds"

We'll be the people hiring or firing you. And you'll be the person at McDonalds saying "would you like fries with that"

So people that use calculators (at least the ones i know) are MATURE and NORMAL. so (in my opinion) that comment was unjust

Are you saying that you want to be a manager at McDonalds? That doesn't sound like a computer job to me, but whatever makes you happy...

True, a single server would do the job well. But who wants to dedicate their machine just to host an irc network? If I'm guessing correctly, I think there might be plans to jointly host a network between the four big TI sites (ti-fr, ticalc.org, and Dimension-TI, and maybe TI-Files) so no *one* site has to bear the workload. I noticed some cooperation between the major sites in preparation and running of the Milennium Awards, so maybe this is a step towards the future, who knows? I think it's a good idea, myself. I think the sites should be united somehow, not just in the form of having links on each other's home pages.

First of all, you're leaving out a major TI site. TINews is already running an IRC server on a network along with TI-Files. You can get there on several servers...irc.tinews.net, irc.ti-files.org, irc.lammah.com, and some other servers. TI-FR has no intention of setting up a server. In fact, they are thinking of being hosted over at TINews. They are currently on a free server and need someone who provides decent web services without restrictions. My second point is that Dimension TI is down indefinitely. They have been "moving to a new server" for over a week now (I think). Dimension-TI has dropped from the Top 4 sites and I'm sure many will agree with me in saying that TINews has entered them.

I don't see why TI-FR is considered one of the major sites. I think that idea just stems from them posting AMS 2.01 a couple months ago. For one, they only do the 68k calcs. And I don't believe that I'm in a small minority of the TI community when I say that I don't speak French...

I'm not knocking TI-FR at all, it's definitely the hot spot for the latest for the 89/92/92+, but I don't think it belongs with ticalc.org, Dim-TI or the Ti-Files. (TI-News is a fantastic site as well--it just lacks an archive, which I think is definitely a prerequisite to being considered a major site.)

I'm not sure how hard/easy this would be so if its not possible just say so but; I think if you just made some real time chat boards on Ticalc.org it would be easier so you don't have to play around with IRC you just set it up similar to yahoo and have some chat rooms maybe one for each calc or something and allow like 25 people in a room or something. I'm not sure of the number of people at ticalc.org at one time so I don't know if this is an option but it would save the trouble from having to work with IRC since I don't really understand how to use it about the servers and channels and what not.

I know for DALnet, they have java set up to connect to IRC on the website, so that combines the ease of using Java on the web and using IRC.

I did e-mail you a question, and you ignored it.
You have also ignored other request sfor help and assistance in the past, too.

Don't be too surprised, they usually ignore just about everyone. I once emailed about 10 times, over 2 months, and had no reply. And to think I was going to reccomend ticalc.org to a friend...

Somewhat off subject: I'd like to see a program that ran on computers that had a co-program on calculators that would allow people to play calculator tournaments over networks. This way, a true calculator champion could be established.

And guess what?!?! That is possible with IRC! With some scripting, it can be done with use of VTI or some other emulator (but what other one compares?!)! See, yet another reason in support of this question...

...BUT, setting up the network would be a lot of work, no?
