I have my home page set to about:blank.
My internet connection is dialup, so the browser loads faster that way -- it's convenient especially if I want to use my browser to view a local file :)

Hey, I was just wondering about setting your homepage to about:blank in a previous post. LOL Funny. :) And for your case, it does seem like a good idea.

But you know what would be an even BETTER idea? Get cable modem! :-D (I had to beg my parents, but it's worth it)

I actually do have ticalc as my home page, mostly because i check it many times a day. I've considered switching to slashdot, but im happy here. I just open every page in my bookmark toolbar (gdnet, ticalc, thinkgeek, ars technica, orage studio, sb emails[w00t, go strongbad!], slashdot, penny arcade, and hotmail) in their own tabs as soon as i load up anyways, so it doesnt really matter.

I'm glad to say ticalc.org has been my homepage since I 1st uploaded a file - WHEW! That's a long time :-p

Try since 2001, though I've been programming and visiting here since late 2000. My oldest files (86 asm sound) haven't been updated since 1-1-2002, but with my new 86 shell that's changing. I remember when the 80 and 81 were still popular for math ;-)

My homepage, though, is yahoo. It would be google, but yahoo loads fast enough and I don't do many searches.

I had it for a while...my brother changed it though because as much as we all love homestarrunner, he loves mustangs more, and the comp is in his room so he wins out...

Google loads much faster than yahoo (for me, at least). In fact, google is probably one of the fastest loading search engines. I'd assume it's because it doesn't have all the fancy graphics and stuff. But it doesn't need them... it's google. It's efficient and that's good enough for me.

But really... google can do just about anything. It's great for a spell checker, it has TONS of pages to search from, it loads instantiously, and it can even do math problems, if you type them in ;-) (type in "sin(3pi/4)^2" [no quotes] at google.com to see what I mean) Gotta love google. :)

That calculator thing is a somewhat new thing...I saw that a few months ago. Unfortuanately it can't solve variable separable differential equations using partial fraction decomposition...try saying THAT five times fast ;) I can actually DO that kind of math :P

Oh, google can't do that? :'( It can do e^(pi*i)+1, which is interesting... I didn't think it would be able to handle imaginary numbers and such. *plays around with it a little more* That's cool, it does handle imaginary numbers pretty nicely. It needs a solve function :)

Thats why you have Mathematica to do that instananeously when your too lazy

I cant say for sure why it is w00t and not w007, but w00t seems more symmetric and visually pleasing than w007. w00t!

Yeah, homepages just take up time. they have to load before you can do anything.

Not if you just hit the stop button right when you open the browser like I do...I have cable, and websites should open quickly, but my comp can only handle about 5 bytes of graphics per hour :P So I don't bother trying to load the homepage (Google on IE and TiCalc on Netscape) unless it's what I want to go to anyway (and, in Netscape, it usually is).

But why hit the stop button when you could just not have a page load? I don't even have my own site (http://sobertillnoon.com) as my homepage. Though I probably should. It would incourage me to finish it.

You have to hit stop for google to load? I can't get my mouse up there fast enough to stop it before it's done loading. :)

So you have a fast connection and a slow computer?

Well...on one computer, it's REALLY slow. This is the one connected directly to the cable modem and with Netscape on ticalc and IE on google. The OTHER computer, (in my room, but I'm not allowed to use it often) is EXTREMELY fast (in comparison) and is connected to the cable modem via a wireless router (linksys). On this comp, the homepage is www.xanga.com/jahjahsson. This is my brother's Xanga homepage....you should all go there and tell my brother that he should let me use his computer more often ;) it'd be REALLY funny...although I would probably not live too much longer thereafter... ;)
