PreOS v0.70 Released
Posted by Michael on 4 September 2004, 15:44 GMT

Patrick Pelissier has released PreOS v0.70, his kernel for the 89, 92+, and V200. Version 0.70 is fully compatible with the TI-89 Titanium, and runs on all AMS versions and all hardware versions. The grayscale library now works on all hardware versions as well. All kernel programs should now run on the Titanium without patching.

OK, I'll add one.

As a TI-89Ti owner with many routines that didn't work before that I need, this will be very helpful. I've been waiting for it.

Now, what about the part in the Basics section that says it's incompatible? Will it be updated, along with the other references?

Finally, does this work with the TSRs and hacks that don't seem to work on an unmodified HW3?

Yeah, I've been waiting for this, I actually downloaded it about a hour after it was put in the archives. :-)

It automatically patches the programs at run time. But it doesn't even fix all the compatibility problems fixed by GhostBuster.

It patches too? Hm, I didn't notice, I use Ghostbuster anyways.

You are right about the autopatching not correcting all problems becuase I was trying to execute a non 89T compatible program from the PreOs browser and it kept returing me to the home screen.

This is why I think there should be a defined 89T file section. That way people dont have to worry about using ghostbuster.

Anyways stupid question but has anyone tried sending an 2.0x OS the the 89T, does that solve any problems.

What program was that? Was it even kernel-based? (PreOs 0.70 won't patch _nostub programs.) Does GhostBuster fix it?

<< This is why I think there should be a defined 89T file section. That way people dont have to worry about using ghostbuster. >>

The section won't be of much use if it is empty. ;-) Someone would still need to do the ports, and with GhostBuster existing, there probably won't be too many volunteers.

You can't. It doesn't support the new hardware at all (the addresses within the ROM won't even be correct).

Or, with Ghostbuster existing, there will be plenty of volunteers because anyone can do it.

No the program was not kernal based, and GhostBuster did take care of it (I think it was Space Dementia). Also thats true about people not wanting to update their programs, but it still would be helpful to people who dont know to use GB, or for those programs that GB doesnt fix (if there are any). Perhaps a patcher that runs on the computer would be more appealing. Also will the patched programs run on the 89 or do you have to un-ghostbust them first?

A patched program will not work on a standard TI-89, and you can't unpatch it.

Note that redistributing a program patched with GhostBuster is most of the time illegal.

Send the appropriate files to you calculator and run preos(), I'd think. I didn't have to do anything other than that to run the older versions of PreOS on my TI-89 (not Titatium). Ahh... looks like I was right, more or less--check the documentary text files, specifically, PreOS.txt, and scroll down to "II. INSTALLATION."

Btw, that text logo in the PreOS.txt file pwns.

You probably should have it. It patches ROM, anyway, so crashes don't delete it like a TSR.

No, but it adds h220xTSR on the non-Titanium calculators.

Then do I need the HW3 patch anymore? I tried installing it and it said HW3 patch was already installed.

HW3Patch is not a TSR. It patches your kernel.

This means that if you EVER used it, and you haven't sent a new AMS to your calc since then, it's still running.

Well then are h220xTSR and HW3 patch the same but is different format? Or do you still need both?

You need only one of them. They solve practically the same problem in different ways.

Does mean that I can finally play smq on my HW2 TI-89?

You already can! See the comments about HW2, that version should work on the Titanium. And there is even a version for TitaniK that works fine with Iceberg (but not PreOs 0.70) too: http://members.chello.at/ gerhard.kofler/kevin/ ti89prog/titanik-smq.zip (remove the spaces).

Yeah, I tried downloading that and running it on my 89Ti. However, whenever I try to change something in the options menu, it crashes after I exit the menu. Iceberg says 'Crash Intercepted' and the calc goes back the Apps Desktop, but none of the icons show up. On running the 'Home' app, the top line of the entry area does not appear.

Did you try to use black&white mode? That doesn't work. Everything else in the option dialog should be changeable though...

You already can! The AMS 2 version by the author already works on HW2, and there is a patched version fixing a HW2 bug included with ExtendeD's AMS 2 port of SMQEdit.
