Playboy Sues ticalc.org for Usage of POTM Acronym
Posted by Nick & Phil on 6 September 1999, 06:08 GMT

Playboy has decided to file suit against ticalc.org recently for their continued usage of the Playmate of the Month (POTM) acronym, a spokesman for ticalc.org reported on Sunday.

According to Hugh Hefner, Playboy's Editor-in-Chief and founder, "We were fed up. This tarnishes the good name of our fine enterprise. We cannot stand to see [this acronym] used in such a bafflingly idiotic fashion."

Sources have confirmed that the sum of the lawsuit is approximately $8.29 with $530,238,301,399.38 in punitive damages and personal anguish from one Miss November.

This news is intended to be funny. We don't intend any harm towards Playboy in any way. This article assumes you have a sense of humor.

I fear, that as a reaction to this news item, I am being followed by hired thugs from Playboy. I must now go underground.

AFAIK... someone from #ti-files came up with this idea first.

I'm pretty sure this is original, but you'd have to ask Nick...

Actually, Chris suggested the headline a long time ago and I put it in a text file. It decided to resurface.

Oh - OK. I guess #ti-files and Chris both came up with the idea separately. Yeah, that makes sense.

Actually, it does make sense. Chris doesn't visit #ti-files or go on IRC much for that matter so he wouldn't get the idea... and none of us certainly got it... I don't think it's something so obscure that only one person could think of it...

You were being sarcastic. If not, it looked like you were. (Hard to tell, but most of the time you're just giving us a hard time, so that's what we have to assume.)

But Nick, I think I remember you mentioning it to me after someone in some IRC channel (probably ti-files) brought it up. I could be wrong.

I wouldn't know about such acronyms as "P*****m of the month" and I'm ashamed that such a respected site as TiCalc.org would use such language. Especially when it tarnishes the otherwise sterling reputation of another organisation. There should be a law against it....

Being that TiCalc.Org has been using POTM Acronym for quiet some time now, and the fact that Pllayboy has been using it for probably 40 years, somethign needs to be done. To show our respect to Mr. Hefner, Heffy, we should most the PlaymateOTM along side the ProgramOTM. Use the corresponding Playmate on the page. When POTM for September roles around we post Playboy's playmate along with TiCalc.Org's Program's of the month. Not a bad idea :)

would it?
actually, if ticalc's POTM is changed to like PrOTM, they'll have to drop the law suit.
my question is, what upset that playmate b!#ch, anyway? so much that she wants x number of dollars in punitive damage????
hey, someone draw her in 8 color grayscale and send it to her!!! :)

Um, you guys should be thanking yourselves for that "do not show fake news" option. Personnally, (my opinion) its stupid and is flagrant yellow journalism but if you like it, keep printing that cr@* as long as I don't have to see it.

However I do want to commend you guys on the site make over, I think it looks great!

Perhaps you need to look up the meaning of yellow Journalism? What this fake news stuff is is called humor. You should try it some time. (*sigh* yet another sad outcome of the public school system)

No, fake news is listed in the news archives no matter what. But the difference is you don't have to read it (on the front page, it's sort of hard to avoid).

I'm going to add some sort of designation on the news archives list, probably a different color for fake news, since now you can't tell the difference. But I think it makes sense for the archives page to be complete regardless of your front page preferences.
