TI Acquires Soft Warehouse, Inc.
Posted by Kirk on 7 August 1999, 01:06 GMT

Texas Instruments has just recently acquired Soft Warehouse, Inc. The company's primary product is Derive, a CAS (Computer Algebra System) upon which the TI-89, TI-92, and TI-92 Plus are based. This acquisition will enable TI to release more products that utilize a CAS. Also, it may lead to new and improved calculators in the TI line.

What's so bad about that? Soft Warehouse made the CAS for the TI-89 and probably the TI-92 and TI-92+ (I don't know for sure). If you own a TI-89, in the about window, it shows a copyright by TI and Soft Warehouse.

Hm... I actually find it quite interesting... Surely you must think that TI has a purpose in mind? Of course, if you use your calculator for games, then you wouldn't think it was interesting. That might be the problem.

Hi
(Web Page)

Most people at my school don’t even know how to delete a program. All they can do is basic four function math and play games that they need me to install for them. It’s really pathetic. Not that there’s anything wrong with playing games, it’s just that it’s all some people can do on it.

i suppose the actual problem is that I don't own an 89, 92, or 92+...

Quite interesting actually...

The whole CAS area is one that I really like on the 89's, saves a lot of tedium work, and allows me to move quickly through comming up with an equation and moving it into a form I can use... The more of that the better, so I'm taking this as good news. I must say I am interested if TI is going to add anything to their exisitng CAS... More details on the deal would be great.

But he can still add news if he finds it, there's no law that says he'll be lynched or anything :)

Well, then whats the point of retiring then? I was under the impression that the point of retiring was that you didn't have the time to put into the site and/or you wanted to devote your time to something else.

It just _appears_ that Kirk is still doing some good amount of work.

Hm... this is the only article on the front page that I have posted. I probably won't post any more for a long time. That doesn't hardly qualify as a lot of work. And to clear up an apparent misconception among many, I didn't completely retire. See the staff page.

Anyhow, as I said, all the people were either offline for a while or on vacation. Otherwise they could've posted it.

Well, it seems that you have a rather loose definition of the word "retire".. :)

He retired from his former positions (news editor, review editor, etc.). He never said he retired from ticalc.org altogether. In fact, he said flat out in the article that he would still help out and handle misc. stuff.

Hey, check it out! This comment (the one I'm responding to) has absolutely NOTHING to do with the main article on this page. But, since Kirk is involved, he leaves it up. Deleting messages that are "poking fun" at his "career", would disrupt his reputation. So, he leaves the messages up here to try and defend himself and his definition of the word "retire." Now, it says that "No irrelvant comments will be posted" or something like that, but perhaps it should say "No irrelevant comments (except ones involving a member of the ticalc staff) will be posted."

The problem is that Bryan raises a major headache for us whenever we remove one of his comments. And since it does have my name on it as being posted, it is somewhat relevant, albeit distantly.

He probably gives you such a headache because he's sick of you discriminating against him and his "irrelevant" comments. Several other people stray from the main point of a news article almost every time! If you're going to remove his "irrelevant" comments, then why don't you remove anyone else's?

News is generically everybody's business. Andy posts some news even though "News Editor" is not designated as one of his duties on our staff page. The News Editor title indicates that you are actively looking for new articles, and also patrol the comment boards on a regular basis.

Usually, I would have gotten one of the news people to post this, but most all of them are on vacation and so that doesn't work very well.

Why is it that every time I try to go to your(Bryan Rabeler) webpage I get a "You Are Forbidden" error?

Well, I hadn't updated it for a long time, so I took it down until I had time to make a new one..

However, I haven't had the time yet..

But I just put the old page back up with a few minor changes. I'll have a completely new one up soon.
