I really would like to have a program for TI Nspire (non CAS) that can put a certain number to radical form. This is a CAS feature but it's very useful and I can't install CAS.

example: the solution to [square root]12 is given as 2[square root]3

Thank you so much if any of you know a program that does this or can do it! :)

A program that can factor in the form of x^2y^2+xy+x^2, x^2+xy+y^2, would be very helpful at the moment.

Hi,

I sometimes have to deal with transcendental equations/functions and I don't know how to solve them in my TI-84 plus. Is there a program for this already?
Or one that could solve an equation like for example:
A = (2*B) + e^34 / T
And the program would list the variables:
A:
B:
T:
and the user could choose any 2 variables and solve for the third?

Thanks, and sorry if this already exists. Been looking for a while now but no dice.

I would like someone to make a math program that shows the work involved with getting the answer to certain problems. I do know this would be an easy program to make, although, I need to know how to start it and if someone could show me how to start it, I could make one and then put it on the site. I have a TI-83 or TI-83 Plus. So if you have any ideas, contact me asap.

Well depending on the math problem that you would like to perform it should be easy you can email me jeanclaude_10@yahoo.fr and give me more info about the program and i'll try to help

You mean you want a program that states how to do the question, or gives the formula, but doesn't give the answer? Or do you want it to give the answer too? For example, if you made a 16k App, you could make it be able to use external "library" programs, and so add, for example, one library for each chapter in your math. In this way you would only have current info. Also it could use the formula given, and have you input wildcards and known variables. Oh well, just my ideas :)

If you understand Dutch, then watch www.users.skynet.be/TI-83plus

Sorry, man, we don't speak Dutch. What's on there.
P.S. If you want a Dutch translator for the TI-86, 85, 83, or 83+, holla, but you will need to supply the dictionary.

i kinda started something like this, but it was only for quadratic formula solving. It took the user step by step through the quadratic process and graphed it at the end. I made it in basic. I was going to expand it for more formulas, but stopped to learn asm.

Yea, there are probably a LOT of programs that do the quadratic, but the best I've seen is ***TOOLBOX*** in the BASIC-MATH category. This program not only finds ALL solutions of the quad, it also has chemistry, geometry, and algebreic equations. It is a little nifty program!

Re: Re: Re: Math Program Ideas

Yah, I have the same problem but for solving for "x".
Here is an example:
3x+1=5x-4-x; solve for x.

I know how to put equ 1 (3x+1) in Y1 and put equ 2 (5x-4-x) in Y2 and do [graph] [2nd][Calc][5][enter][enter][enter] but it only gives you the value of x in the lower-left corner and I need work. The have it for quad. form so why not solving for x? I also don't like re-arranging formulas. Any ideas? Please help.

You should just do it by hand. A calculator should not be (For a student) a tool that you punch in an entire problem, push Enter, and copy the answer. My little brother can do that. It's fine to use it to do the easy math, such as 1863 / 5.8 or such, but especially when your learning somethingm you should do the formula / equations by hand so that you know them, where they came from, and how they work. (And by then you could probably build your own program.)

Yes, if you're having problems solving THAT by hand, you're going to be REALLY bummed when (if) you get into differential equations (this is after Calc II or III depending on the school/college/university) and have to solve a third level differential equation...a calculator won't even give you an ANSWER for this let alone the SOLUTION!

Can someone make a program that laughs in people's faces when they bought an advanced graphing calculator just to solve basic algebraic equations?

Send it to him when you're done...

Really, it seems like it would take less time just to do it by hand than to punch each little piece of the equation in the calculator, then write out all the same stuff you would have written anyway.

this is funny iwas bored so i did the example
x=5 and i did it in my head if you really wanna program that can do THAT you=wuss try sumin' like this:
18N 180° + 25N 45° i learned this in trig it's simple... but you must be in algebra1 so you probally have no idea what vetor quantities are(the problem above)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Math Program Ideas

Dude, that's kinda sad...
Calculators are designed to help you out with math problems, not to do your homework for you...
You might as well go threaten to kick some kid's butt if he don't do your homework for you.

no offense, but you just seem like you're lazy

3x+1=5x-4-x; solve for x.

Move the variables to one side of the equation and the whole numbers to the other by taking away each from both sides:

[(3x+1)^-1^ ^-4x^]=[(5x-4-x)^-1^ ^-4x^] - hint: any variable "x" by itself is actually shorthand for "1x"(1*x), So 5x-4-x = 4x-4.

after those steps are completed you are left with:

-x=-5

multiply each side of the equal sign by -1 to make x positive:

(-1)-x = -5(-1) = ^x=5^

You don't even need a calculator to do this, theres only 3 freaking steps to show your work! THIS IS PRE-ALGEBRA! you should be able to do this in your head!

You seem to be asking for a computer algabra system that shows the steps it took to find the answer but even thats probably not what you want because CAS's generally take really complex aproches to problems because they solve them way more generally
anyway the first step is turning a string into tokens
then you have to build a parse tree
then you have to have to some how find a way to browse and manipulate that tree ultimately a very complex task.
