Wow, a 100% no-vote.
I tried using VTI with my TI-89 ROM 2.05, but since I only have Pentium 133MHz it runs slower than the actual calculator. Does anyone know if there is a faster EMU for the 89 that will run under Windows 95?

I would, but they are used mostly for assembly programming. When I get arround to learning that language, I'll probably use it very frequently for testing my programs. Iwouldn't want to loose my valuable calculator information. ;)

<note> That's what if you didn't know, called ILLEGAL!
You can only use a calc ROM if you actually owe the hardware.</note>

It's illegal, but called WHOCARES! Is TI going to show up at your door and arrest you? If they do, shoot them. J/K. I really hope America hasn't reached this point...

Yeah, if people in America had integrity in general, that would really suck! Oh wait, that is exactly what we need.

If you want my opinion, calc emulators defeat the whole purpose behind graphing calcs. I tried using VTI instead of buying a TI89, but I got so frustrated with the fact that I had to be at the computer and I had to either click on the little buttons or memorize the keyboard that I broke down and got a real 89. Granted, they're nice for testing programs, but it's not that big a deal. When I test a program, I just backup my calc first.

No, the purpose of graphing calcs is to solve math problems. Bringing a calculator to math class is a lot more convenient than bringing a laptop with VTI installed.

If you were going to do math on a laptop, why not just get something like MathCad of Mathimatica. They are much faster and more powerful that any calc, plus they're meant for use on a computer.

Emulators help when you're programming and don't really feel like linking your calcuator sending the program just to find out that it doesen't work. That is about all I use it for.

I just started learning assembly, and I crash my calculator alot. I started using VTI because the graphlink software is so buggy and slow. With VTI, I don't have to sit around dealing with graphlink errors every time I test my program

the main reason the emulaters are there is so you dont have to take the half an hour to backup and reload your calc.

I don't have a link cable, so I just downloaded ROMs from the net. Here is one website I found:
http://www.geocities.com/ti8xroms
It has ROMs for Ti-82, Ti-83, Ti-85 and Ti-86 in one .zip file

Maybe this page has got prosecuted because it contains copyrighted ROMS. They are illegal if you don't own the hardware. I also suppose that may people have downloaded them without owning the actual hardware. For example a TI-92 when you actually have a TI-82!
