I don't really like any of them. They should have a green one. Green is awesome!

I agree, although my favorite color is blue, I have a green slide case for my 83+. Say, can those kickstand cases be used on the on the traditional calcs such as the 83s?

No, the "new generation" calcs have a completely different shape...similar to that of the HP calcs...

Yeah...more money for TI...but I still kinda like the new shape better than the old one...if you look t an 83+ and then an 82, that's what the difference felt like for me when I put my titanium and my 83+ next to each other.

I'm not exactly thrilled with this idea of faceplates. Oh, look everybody! You can make your calculator colorful, but only if you pay us money! Why? Because we're getting sick of making the same calculators with a few improvements, like USB links, so now we want YOU to make your calculator better!

Yeah, it does seem sort of stupid (except for the heat-based color-changing idea)...kind of like buying faceplates for your monitor or something (actually, you can buy color faceplates for some compaq presarios, which in my opinion is just idiotic beyond comprehension)...

Why would I bother? DS and TiCalc (in alphabetical order; don't wanna start a flame war ;)) have made my calc so much better, a color change wouln't even be a noticeable improvement anymore. (Not to mention that I think my Silver looks pretty neet already.)

It seems like TI's trying to follow the trend of cell phone manufacturers.

I say go for multi colors. Like maybe that chameleon paint that changes colors. Or maybe like reflective flames. Or maybe even theme plates for schools or sports teams. I know this is getting cheesier and cheesier, but i like the chameleon paint and the flames idea. I think TI could go far with this plate idea....

It would have been better transparent, not translucent.

No, because then all you have to look at in the back is that silver shield that protects the machinery. Plus, grease shows up more on a transparent covering.

Sorry...I was reading an enginnering article at the time...by "machinery" I mean the parts and the circuits...but you probably already knew that.

Makes me think "Dremples TI." I want a semi-tiedie 2 or 3 colour swirl... of course a TSR controlled colour cycling faceplate would be nice...

If you could get an oil-based liquid that changes colors with temperature and a water-based liquid that changes colors with temperature, you could control the color and resultant oil-slick effect through the link port if you could assure that the faceplate wouldn't hemorrhage.

that would be awesome. like make the whole calc shade red, orange, green, blue, yellow based on the heat transferred while doing uploads and downloads through the link port. now we're talkin!

z80's don't generate heat, but otherwise, yes, it would be cool.

Re: Re: ¤

You could do it by vibrations...have a small motion sensor installed somewhere inside the calculator that sends electrical signals to a layer of reactive fluid...it might also be possible to type in a color on your homescreen like "faceplate("BLUE")" and have it change to that...although that might require use of the I/O port to send the information.

Wow, now that would be really cool. I don't think it would ever happen, but that would be a neat thing to have on your calculator.

Light Emitting Diodes (I do not like to use abbreviations...lol) use VERY little power, and they could make it use a separate battery or something...so that if the Light Emitting Diodes ran out your calc would not die...Also, there could be some kind of switch to turn it on/off...

I think that might be part of the problem...TI is big on aesthetics right now, obviously...what if people didnt like the LED color? It's not like you can easily switch light bulb colors...

120d//!!!! Considering that they *are* making faceplates, of all stupid things, for their calcs, I guess that might be a real concern. :-D

Only problem is fitting in the LEDs behind the keys...everything's close-fitting inside the case as it is...

They would use a superbright multicolored LED and fiberoptics.

Hmm, that would be neat. Now if the keys were translucent, they'd show up in the dark (similar to how a cell phone does it). I like the idea with the switch...

Every processor (or just every electronic component in general) generates some heat, maybe not much in the case of the Z80, but it's still there.

I guess having a colorful calculator would be cool, but I would never even think about spending money on a faceplate.
