Okay, I think it's just about time to settle this crap :).

Grant, I and the rest of the knowledgeable people on this list give
you a hard time because of, well, the large amounts of obvious junk
you are known to spew into this list :). It's not your fault, some
things you do are actually quite innovative, and you do seem to posess
uncommon knowledge when it comes to certain computer related topics,
but the rest of the time you come off as either incomprehensible to
the nontechnical, or ignorant to the people who REALLY know what
they're talking about. If you were more careful as to how you
presented yourself, you wouldn't EVER be flamed. And from reading all
the TI-H archives, it's NOT just me with this opinion.

You have an unsubstantiated sense of confidence when it comes to
talking about electronics and computer related hardware, and it can
get highly annoying. And you KNOW the reason why I always gave you a
hard time... Whenever you came to me with a problem or a "gee mel
look what I just designed and look how cool I am!"-type thing, I would
either point out 87 flaws in your reasoning or just plain say "umm
sorry, you might want to reconsider [this] and [this] and [this] point
about this design" and it would piss you off that I wouldn't tell you
the answers... You would simply ignore my comments and think I'm
giving you a hard time. Well, now I *am* giving you a hard time :).

Just be more reserved when it comes to your posts... Be more specific
when you talk about stuff you've done, or stuff you're GOING to do.
When you come up with your latest-and-greatest plan to rule the TI
hardware world, be more *realistic* when you post your ideas, and if
you know what you're thinking about will probably be vaporware, don't
even mention it! This will save you a LOT of flames.

Another major problem you have is your tendancy to embellish your
accomplishments... You don't always do this, but it DOES happen.
When you're talking about something you've done, be VERY specific as
to your EXACT accomplishments. For example, in the last thread about
the PPC403GC... You were so nebulous as to what you actually did, it
took 4 extra TI-H messages for me to figure out exactly what you were
talking about. This *literally* happens on EVERY email conversation I
have with you!

Along a similar note, you seem to have an amazing tendancy to bite off
much more than you can chew... At any one time you seem to be setting
up some godforsaken network of junk computer parts you found in your
basement, designing the next space shuttle, raving about the
dead-but-not-buried MacOS and its related dead-but-not-buried Mac
hardware, and redesigning the TI-92 so it can do your laundry. Pick a
project that you can realistically finish, and just do it! It's that
simple.

I don't claim to be perfect either, and I do suffer from some of the
flaws I just pointed out, I just wanna let you know how myself and
MANY people around you feel, even if they don't tell it to you
directly.

Grant, if you didn't read it from something *I* wrote directly, assume
I didn't say it.

>Ohh...btw. Please flame me off the list. They do not need to hear

Sourcecode doesn't mean squat, grant :).

I have "sourcecode" to a fractal based video compression algorithm
that gets 100000000:1 compression. Big deal :).

And as for this MP3 player thing... Exactly what are you trying to
accomplish with it? First of all, as you know, you can't exactly buy
the MAS3507D decoder chip at rat shack. Hence the reason you were
bitching about calling germany, I assume :)? You said you dealt with
switchers before, does this mean you're using the chip's onboard DC-DC
converter? How are you handling the logic level conversion between
the AVR and the micronas? What about the analog signal isolation at
the DAC, which could cause SHITTY sounding output? I highly doubt you
have the analog design experience to design a PCB that limits the
ground bounce that's gonna happen at the DAC. But then again, it
won't really matter because who DOESN'T like fuzzy static background
noises while they're listening to their favorite MP3 :)?

Second, what are you doing for your DAC? Which DAC were you planning
on using? In case you haven't figured it out, the DAC that came with
the little "kit" you begged for isn't exactly mainstream. What about
the oscillator source for the MAS? It requires an oddballish clock
rate that cannot be found in mainstream catalogs unless you change the
on-chip PLL parameters to allow for other frequencies... Not to
mention the fact that the oscillator must be at TTL levels and 5v
rail-to-rail oscillators will likely damange the chip.

Third, about this IDE portable thing... I've gotten like 10 messages
from people wondering about its "features," so I'd like you to clear
that up... With only 8k of AVR firmware, it sounds to me like it
won't have SQUAT in terms of functionality. What about power
management? Your file system? LCD display? Will it have a keypad?
Or will this simply load all the mp3's sequentially and PLAY them
sequentially... Boy, wouldn't that be exciting :). I've been getting
(err, lately I've been deleting :) far too many emails on this,
especially since that f00 at mp3.com seems to love to report on your
latest activities :).
