  I've looked at the actual connections that the pins make, though I forget
what all of them were..  There was power and ground, 9 data pins from the CPU
and a couple of unattached pins.  I believe there were some more but they were
unmapable by looking at the board.  All the data pins were buffered through a
set of capasitors and resistors.  My guess is it's a one-way path (the 3-pin
I/O port does not have anything like it).  I think it basically works like an
8-bit data path with a clock line, and perhaps (as you've mentioned) some
feedback for contrast or other control info.
