Parallel link problem

Hey All,

I just recently built the $4? $5? parallel link cable for my TI-85. For
insurance against plug maladies I used a female 2.5mm stereo socket instead of
a plug for the cable. I then simply plugged the TI-TI link cable that came with
the calc into the socket.

The only problem is that I can't get it to work. I tested all of the
connections and they check out o.k. from the D-sub to the socket to the other
end of the link cable. I've checked the direction of the diodes about 50
times. I plugged the link cable into the calc and connected the other end to a
meter. When not active, I get 5V between the bottom and middle parts of the
plug. When I hit xmit, it drops to 1V. There is no change from the middle to
the tip. I get the same result if I plug the parallel link assembly in and xmit
from link85xp.exe.

So far so good?

The only problem is that it won't transfer anything. I get timeout errors on
the computer and ERROR 35 LINK TRANSMISSION ERROR on the calc.
I also get timeout errors from the lc85.exe link test and disp.exe programs
that I downloaded from ticalc.org. (although the linktest.exe program gives the
proper results)

I am using a 386sx 20Mhz PS/2 machine (which is pretty slow-hehehe)
My parallel port is Lpt1 port 0x378

I wrote a short program to output the status of the ports 0x378 0x379 0x37a
but nothing I do from the calc changes any of the values. I know I have good
connections because the values on the VOM strobe. Also, as a few people have
mentioned the calc slows every once in a while due to the status of the
parallel port. I can easily remedy this by resetting the port values. Something
is getting through!!

If anyone can help me I would be very grateful!
Thanks in advance,
