New Wireless Link Developed
Posted by Michael on 12 July 2003, 19:22 GMT

Cerrato Renaud has developed wireless linking hardware for TI calculators. This design uses a 433 MHz radio transmitter with a microcontroller, so it works without any special drivers. The range is stated as up to 50 meters. The demonstration software is for the TI-92, but it's easy to write programs for the other calculators as well.

Electromagnetics Perturbations

Some peoples reports me that Aurel's modules are too sensitive to Electromagnetics perturbations (mobile phone perturbations, or TI's pertubartions itself), and so, the transmission isn't reliable at all in some cases. So, i decide to stop this project for a while in order to find solutions. We have just to replace transceivers by others (reliable of course), but we have to find them.
In my case, i haven't notice any problems.

You can still replace tranceveirs by yourself if you find any transmiting/receiving parts.

I'll try to resolve this problem with an error checking and acknowledge system. So, stay informed for the hex file version 2.xx if you experience perturbations (random cartacters are sent to TI).

(the source code will be realeased soon).

I have a simple siren circuit and I can mess with it by just using some of my two way radios (2 watt) within 6 feet of it. Try putting it in a closed metal (preventing short circuits w/ padding etc.) casing with the atenna free on the outside. I'm not very familiar with radio waves, but this method will prevent shorting it with static charges and possibly sheild it (partially) form EMI.

Version 2.0 : Beta Realease + Source

This is a beta realease, ready to work, but very slow (under 1Kbps) due to error checking.
Enjoy.

Source code is included (Pic Basic) !!!

Stay informed for future upgrades.

hey i had an idea to make one the for all the calc's with link port. It use a flash application and you can send TI-mail. But the thing is that a server will be needed to rout all the TI-mail to the right users like text message only with the calc. I'd bet a lot of people would want to get a piece of that pie. Too bad i don't have the resource and knowlege to do such a thing

Here's and interesting RF Tranceiver. With a Power Amplifier, the distance could be increase a lot. PLus it has a 1Mbps bandwith so theres plenty of speed. Might try to make a simple network with it.

I realize this is an old topic, but i just needed to know ;)
The wireless thingy isn't only for TI's protocol?
That means that if i set the tip from my calc high, it does it on the other side too, and i don't need to send an entire byte of data using TI's protocol?
That's awesome =)

I'm too tired to check all previous messages if somebody already has done something like this but anyway. I think i'm going to try get this thing inside my ti-89. I just checked that the 89 has lots of free space above and on both sides of the battery holder.

I hope that the "Aurel's module" fits between the bat holder and display. The other electronics could be placed on both sides of the holder using SMD components. Biggest problems will come with battery capacity. Maybe Li-Ion batteries from mobile phones would be the solution?

Ti-89 with build-in wireless connection, not bad.. eh? :)

hey how  Account Info

wow this is great. ive got a TI83 and i know its possible to transmit AM waves. but the range is like 20 cm i think.

so it isnt possible to comunnicate with that?

are there any programs or tutorials that tells me how to do this with an TI83 because it would be really cool at your math-tests:p
