AMS 2.08 Re-released
Posted by Michael on 20 February 2003, 23:54 GMT

It appears TI has been busy lately; AMS 2.08 for the 89, 92 Plus, and Voyage 200 has been re-released. It was pulled from download shortly after its original release upon the discovery of linking problems with TI Connect. Now it's been fixed and is available once again for download. You can snatch the 89, 92+, or Voyage 200 updates from TI's Online Store. Version 2.08 adds the icon desktop, new trig functions, flash app categorization, and most notably clock support.

I'll admit it, I'm new. I've got two fairly basic questions;
1)Does the 64k used by AMS 2.08 get released if I Flash 2.05 back?
2)There's been more time now to test, so does 2.08 work or should I wait for TI to realize it's mistake again?

Also, I know there is a whole lot of mem on the calculator, but C programs tend to be big and that's what I'm learning to program in. Is there any way to increase the mem (RAM or ROM) on an 89 safely, and would it be worth it. I read something about adding more mem to the calc somewhere, but I can't find it.
Sorry to be a bother.
Thanks

1) Yes, you get the memory back if you go back to 2.05 .
2)I'm not sure which mistake you mean. Nothing has been fixed/changed since when 2.08 was released before. It's the same.

If you have a HW1, you can patch your AMS with MaxMem to get as much memory as HW2 calculators. MaxMem does not support AMS 2.08 yet, but there is an on-PC patch called MEM208 which does the same. It requires you to send the patched AMS using the TIB Receiver.

I think a AMS 2.08 HW Patch would solve alot of the problems I'm having. ttstart doesn't work for all my ASM programs.

Does anyone know where I can download AMS 2.05?

This is a known bug in the ttstart launcher. See:
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~pad /faq/ti89.html#3.6.12
(remove the space from the URL). The easiest solution is to simply use the latest ttstart from http://tict.ticalc.org to launch the program.

I just wanna say one thing. I think it is reall crappy that TI didn't actually change ANYTHING on the OS. More than that, I think it sucks that they didn't make it compatible with anything at all. I'm real glad I spent the half an hour to install the OS so that I can go right back and re-install 2.05.

Just in case anyone was wondering what I meant about the compadibility, most (or all) of my ASM programs say "Invalid relocation data in ASM prgram," which sucks.

Excuse-moi! after reading some of the other things you people have said...I noticed how to get my stuff to work. however, I have not tried it yet, and I still think that TI did a real crappy job on upgrading the ti-89.

Well, I tried like heck to patch the AMS 2.08 ROM. It worked with VTI, but not on the real one. What I did was run the dos 'fc /B' on the AMS 2.05 against one that I patched on the PC. Then I searched using a hex editor for the stuff around the addresses of the different bytes in the 2.05. I changed those that would be changed.

If you want to experiment with the new time and date functions download my program STOPWTCH.ZIP for TI-92+ (it will also work with 89 and Voyage if you change program extension)
