AMS 2.08 Re-released
Posted by Michael on 20 February 2003, 23:54 GMT

It appears TI has been busy lately; AMS 2.08 for the 89, 92 Plus, and Voyage 200 has been re-released. It was pulled from download shortly after its original release upon the discovery of linking problems with TI Connect. Now it's been fixed and is available once again for download. You can snatch the 89, 92+, or Voyage 200 updates from TI's Online Store. Version 2.08 adds the icon desktop, new trig functions, flash app categorization, and most notably clock support.

Ok is it just me that are heaving lots of problems with this new OS. I have played with it for 5 minutes and until now i have had these problems.

The transferprogram does not work as it should, almost all files get interrupted at transfer. (shouldent that have been fixed in TiConn1.2?).
My beutiful _ms2 and alike programs to get my own constants does not seem to work, it just complains.

anyone else had similear problems or know how to fix em?

IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!

I installed the new 2.08 version, and those same linking problems that were said to have been on the original release of 2.08 still exist. I can't send anything to my calculator. NOTHING! I tried using the old TI-89 Graph Link Software instead of TI-Connect, but the same problem occurs.

I know there's a TI-OS remover out for the 89, but I guess that kind of useless if you can't manage to even send the program to your calculator!

And on another note, after installing the new OS, ALL of my memory was erased. It said it would only erase the RAM, but it did far more than that. Everything I had on my calc was archived, and it cleared everything, including all the applications. So now I'm stuck with a unlinkable 89 that doesn't even have TI-Chess on it, geez, now what am I going to do?

Apparently, I'm going to have to get a new TI-89. Texas Instruments better give me one for free. It's because of their mistake that my calc is ruined.

So whatever you do, DO NOT DOWNLOAD 2.08!

LOL! You can easily download TI-Chess.

<<And on another note, after installing the new OS, ALL of my memory was erased.>>

Did you use TI Connect 1.2 and the OS update feature?

Ooops... the old TI-Graph Link software does work.

But it still doesn't work with TI-Connect. I tried numerous times. Everytime it will look like it's about to send the file, a window will come that says, "TI-Connect has performed an illegal operation, blah blah blah...".

But yes, it's okay to download the new OS, but beware, it DOESN'T work with TI-Connect. That means you'll have to use the old, and much slower TI Graph Link. Never had I noticed how much faster a USB cable was than those crappy COM port and parallel links.

Does anyone else want more memory on the 89 instead of an icon desktop and a clock?

TI ought to make a TI-89 SE or GE (Gold Edition) or a PE (Platinum Edition), with extra speed and memory (considering that the Voyage 200 PLT has 2.7 MB of FlashROM)

TI is really TI-83+ happy right now. If you argue, they'll most likely say get a V200.

Despite that, however, a TI-89 Platinum Edition with equal or, preferably, better features as the PLT,
in a sleek silver and black case (like the Dell Computers) would turn a few heads :)

I will no longer have nightmares about TI being incapable of producing a more ideal calculator.

Use PreOs if you want to run DoorsOS programs on AMS 2.08: http://www.timetoteam.fr.st . No HW2Patch required.
KerNO does not support DoorsOS programs and never will. That's not its purpose.

What is, besides anti-crash protection?

Some minor features such as getting rid of "ASAP or Exec string too long" and "Invalid Program Reference" errors. Read the documentation to get the full list. But anti-crash protection is its main purpose.

Well, I HAVE found that alot of the prgms for doors DO
encounter a common-annoying number of errors and crash points.
They SHOULD make a shell/kernal to the work of both(DOORSOS & KerNO)!

1. That's what PreOs is for.
2. DoorsOS also has a crash protection. But crash protections are not perfect. There will always be crashes that the crash protection is unable to recover.
