Grayscale on TI-83 Plus
Posted by Michael on 19 January 2003, 22:58 GMT

A stunning new programming kit has been released by Diederik Kingma of Maxcoderz. Grayscale Programming Package v1.0 is available for the 83 and 83+. It provides tools for programmers to develop grayscale programs on the 83-series calculators. The demos cast aside any flickers of doubt regarding the viability of grayscale on the 83+; this technology is worth checking out.

I loaded Zelda.8xp on to my TI 83 SE and tested it. In using the interupt of 0 it ran quite choppy and slow. Interupt of 2, even more slow and choppy. Interupt of 4, even more slower than 2. But on 6, it ran smoothly and fast, actually Link got some speed, if you know what I mean ;). The screen is a bit small, but I guess that is the best "graphics" alternative to the 16x16 bit graphics problem. Maybe it could suffer a bit to have a bigger screen? I would really like to see this get finished. Also, some help could be given by that bloke who made Zelda: Links Awakening for 89, Though the TI-83 SE has less Ram than the TI-89, it large ammount of Flash Memory and 2.5 x speed (15mgz) would seriously help to make a decent Zelda. Anyway, I hope this Zelda does get underway as (it looks like a demo game, not just a test as it has multi-levels, and the readme tells of later developement). On another matter, what is with Sam? did he die or something? Alright, just commenting,
Later,
Nox King
