Author profiles connected to accounts
Posted by Magnus on 3 March 2002, 17:23 GMT

We've talked about it for a long time, but not done anything about it. But finally, it's done. The file author profiles are now connected to the user accounts.

This will make it possible to modify the information on these pages directly on the site using a normal login, instead of having to mail filearchive@ticalc.org. In the beginning, you will only be able to modify the name shown on the author information page - but we will update this with more features over time.

We have automatically connected all user accounts that had identical email addresses as an author profile to that user account. All other users will manually have to attach their author profile to their user account, using our normal "secret code is mailed out" method.

If you have any questions regarding your author profile, please contact filearchive@ticalc.org.

So how do you get to it? Enter Your Account, then chose Manage File Author Profile.

so if the email address is wrong on our author profiles and we changed it since posting those files how come if this is supposed to fix that stuff it doesnt let you change the e-mail address to the right one?

Yea, that would be a really nice feature to have added, allow change of email.

my account still lists an erroneous email address, and I can't seem to change it yet. I think that would be a good addition to the system.

Dear Bank of America,

My bank account's email is wrong but I have no way to fix this. It says billgates@microsoft.com but should be billgates@ti-89.org. I would like to withdraw money from my account but it doesn't work for this reason. Please fix this. Thanks.

The email address will be the same one as on your account. If you change the address on your account, the address on the author information page should automatically be updated as well.

I updated my account e-mail last year, but most of my files are still listed under the old address.

No problem. I'll just attach the old author profile to my account.

"Your verification email has been sent to [the expired e-mail account]. Use the code in that mail to verify the attachment of the author profile."

Hmm...that doesn't seem very helpful.

I just found out that it works if you change the email address in the account information to something else, and then change it back. At each change in the address, the author information seems to be updated. Of course, both addresses must be valid. I didn't check whether it works to simply change part of the address to uppercase or lowercase.

But, to Magnus: Please fix this. It would increase the quality of this new feature a lot.

Other than that, I must say that I like this. Thanks, ticalc.org.

I agree that this is very helpful, but what I'd like most is the ability to change email addresses also... maybe this could be a priority.

Worminater

Hey all. I am a fairly n00bie when it comes to calc programing, and don't know of any message boards or such that deal witht he subject. This seems to be the closest thing I have come across on the subject. Would the authers here be interested in possible migrating from the replies on ti-caalc.org's bandwidth to an ezboard or such...? Independent moderatorship so Ti-Calc's staff would not be burdened. I am sure we would not hav trouble getting it set up. I have questions on programming but don't want to post "off topic" right here. would Ti-Calc.org post a link to the board, if nothign else...? I well post my question after this, but I think the board would be a great idea.

I dont' think you follow what i mean. I love this place. Pretty much where i go to get any/all info relating to calc. The only thing this site is missing is a true message board where programmers can more easily talk about programming, without troubleing the probably already overworked ti-calc staff with moderation/bandwidth usage. Its not a diss at all, just a suggestion.

Well I figured as long as everyone else was both spamming the board _and_ looking for a message board, I might as well mention it. :-) Hey, I can't be blamed if it increases traffic on my site, lol.

You could always use the Texas Instruments message boards at education.ti.com . Its suprising so few people ask questions about programming there.
