Directory Separation Completed
Posted by Eric on 27 February 2001, 03:06 GMT

All done. Huzzah! The directory separation has taken a bit longer than expected - we sure have a lot of TI-89 and TI-92+ programs - but I think it's all worth it (note to the uninformed: if you haven't visited ticalc.org in the past few days, you might want to read the news item about 5 boxes below this before you brand me as insane...unless you have already, but that's a different story).

You can now browse your favorite TI-89 and TI-92+ assembly archives in the following categories:

So, theoretically, all the no-stub programs should work without a shell, and all the DoorsOS programs will require a shell such as DoorsOS (obviously) or UniversalOS. If this is not the case, send me a note with the exact filename. Otherwise, enjoy!

Thanks for putting in the work splitting up the files. It'll sure make it easier to find compatible games. It might even reduce the number of newbie questions, since it makes it more clear that you need a shell.

Or you can just view the source or his page. Web pages aren't compiled, so in order to view one you must be sent the source (unless it contains cgi scripts).

Or take a look at these two sites, which are both mine:
http://www.cahaltech.com
http://soundoffnow.cjb.net <-- Being updated soon. It is good to have Shockwave installed for the tutorial handbar on the side.
Both sites require Netscape 4+ (not recommended though), and Internet Explorer 3.5+ (better).

Suggestion: partition the 89/basic categories into ones that are fully basic and ones that use assembly libs. A lot of them use assembly libs and I don't consider these fully basic because one of the main advantages or basic is stability and these programs are sometimes without it (no assembly programs are necessarily 100% stable, so basic programs with assembly functions are not as well).

You should change the "DoorsOS" folders to something like "Shell" or "Shell Required" or even "non-no-stub" because not everyone uses DoorsOS and could be misleading for newbies.

I agree, now when one gets into the "games" directory, he will only notice nostubs programs. You have to be quite experienced to go and look into the "doorsos" section. I think nostubs programs should be put under a "games\nostub" directory, because currently the new hierarchy is not fair at all with programs which needs a shell.

Way to go brilliant. That was only a temporary solution until they finished the entire sorting. you really should look at the directories before posting about them.

Seems like you never actually looked at it. Click on the nostub games folder above and see. It's still the same way it was before. And I totally agree it should be changed.

I used to find it annoying when i had my 85 that one picked an archive section such as games and then picked the shell folder. I think it should have been that you pick the shell and then pick if you want games or science programs.

Relating this to the directory you should pick if you want nostub or Kernel dependant and then pick the section you want.

And if your going to name such folders after a kernel it should be named after UniversalOS and not doorsos. It is the only one that is consitently being worked on and is by far the most stable.

There isn't any good solution. You certainly know how to use a kernel-dependant program but didn't you confuse the "shell" and "kernel" terms ?

There will be always someone who wouldn't understand the chosen name for this directory. A bertter idea would be to add a note at the top of the page.

Would you please tell us what that game is. I have never heard of it. Do you know how to program asm or are you just a standard user (can't program). Learn to program in 'C'. It is not that hard to learn.

judging by the responses to your latest post, i am guessing that those movies are really popular and a box office hits. they must have thousands of action figures. and the stars of the movies, wow they have to be big name people.

you need to mature a little. calling people dumbasses tells me that you are either a child or immature hick.

"cool" is a relative term, and opinion varies widely. From the sound of the title, it's not something I would personally like. But that's my taste. I'm sure you have yours, and that is perfectly acceptable. But I do not have to watch the movie or play the game if I do not want to, even if it is "cool."

Calling people "dumbass" does not do any good, and is a sure sign of inmaturity and a lack of understanding of other people's tastes and cultures. Remember that we are not you, and we do not have to like the things you like and do the things you do.

ur sympathy touches me but if u have never seen these movies there must be something wrong with u, not to mention the main character is Bruce Cambell, star of the tv show Jack of All Trades

It seems you assume we all know what these movies and the tv show are, as well as who that actor is. I have not heard of any of them. It seems you are either very immature or a troll that migrated from slashdot (I wondered if the ticalc.org slashbox would eventually lead to something like this, although I personally like using it...). To reiterate a statement upthread, calling someone a "dumbass" because they do not know of a movie (or, in this case, trilogy) is very immature and reminds me all too well of the worst trolls on slashdot. Actually, their language is worse, but ticalc.org would remove comments with that level of vulgarity. I will stop now before this turns into a rant...

Thuwhah?

I've only heard of the Evil Dead movies through "It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Movie" on Rinkworks. (Sure tells you something about the quality, eh? ^_^)

I've never heard of Bruce Campbell.

I think I've heard of "Jack of All Trades". But nothing about it stands out in my mind. How many seasons was it on? Is it in syndication? What is it about?

I apologize. Now I know what it is. It's that one with the spy (or whatever) person in the eighteenth century that USA Networks makes.

I can't say that's great entertainment, either. ^_^
