[insert some kind of birthday-related music here]

and I just can't seem to get enough ofToday, ticalc.org turns four years old.
Good job, ticalc.org! We couldn't have celebrated this without you. :)

Also, today is my first year anniversary of working here, but nobody cares about that, so I'll just say that this is my 222nd news item and that all you people rock for putting up with me for the first 221 *g*.

I have no clue how many files we have in the database right now, but I'd guess it's someplace around 12,500. Steve is spending his time at Microsoft's world headquarters in Redmond (that lucky hax0r), and he would be the one to know the exact number.

Thank you to all our fans and readers who keep this site going. It's been a great time since then, and lots of great and not-so-great things have happened. We couldn't have done all this without you. Thank you thank you thank you. Each and every one of you. Much love.

Update (Phil): Nick is a very bad guesser. As of right now, there are 11,866 files in the ticalc.org filelist database table.

Update (Nick): :(

I agree. With England and Germany out of the way, and with the exeptional playing Portugal has been portraying, they will no doubt be the Euro 2000 champions.

I'm also German only by blood (way, way back, too), and I usually say "Fröhliche Gebürtstag." But what you said is right, too (as Sebastian, who would really know, said).

Andreas Ess says the same thing as I do, so I know I'm not all wrong (if only in Austria, hehe). ;)

I mean ticalc.org, not Nick's off-topic comments.

What's wrong with Nick's off-topic comments?

Besides, you have to admit they're more on-topic than a few others... :-P

What do I think?
I think that Sox is a stupid name for a football team... what? They're a baseball team? Hmmmm. Well, its a stupid name for a baseball team too.
I think you should all play cricket. Much more civilized, I say what.
Also, I think that TiCalc.org should change their name now to "21st Century TiCalc.org" to keep with the times.
All these suggestions come courtesy of PsychoCorp who also wish you a happy birthday, but point out that their headquarters are "bigger than yours".

Bah. Pedantic ticalc.org visitors... I remember the days when we were happy to play with a hoop and a stick, let alone with a graphics calculator... people nowadays... taught too much Math, that's the problem.... never had this debating about what century it was in my day... always knew where you were with the 20th Century...

I think that's quite the problem--not enough math. It doesn't take too much to know that when you start with the beginning of a year numbered "1," 100 years will end at the end of the year "100."

Time is inclusive--a bit different than quantities we are taught, like apples and stuff.

THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THIS MATH:

Easy. So what if the count started at 0 or 1? DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE??? No - our Gregorian calendar is counted from an event (the birth of Christ) that has
a) not been proven to have happened
b) has not been proven to have happened at that particular time
c) or has been dodgily translated from an older calendar anyway.
Math doesn't solve the Millennium problem - people should have better things to do than complain that "its not the /real/ Millennium this year...". I mean - how sad CAN you get...

I'd rather just move to one of the first Martian colonies to be set up so that I can get away from all the induhviduals on this world. This would also permit a definite, accurate starting date for a calendar.

That would be a lot to type on the address bar of the web browser!

I know Nick is going to reply to this comment, so I have to give him something to reply to...

Happy birthday, ticalc... although I have written lots of stuff, I've gotten my most downloads from ticalc.org (but still, not much). Go on for another four years... by then, what calculators will we have?

Interesting little tidbit, found in History:
--- cut ---
31 Mar 1996 - Added BASE HREF tags for Prodigy compatibility.
--- cut ---
This page has been accessed [MANY!] times since 6 Oct 1995.
--- cut ---
CALCULATORS:
TI-80
TI-81
TI-82
TI-83
TI-85
TI-92
--- stop cutting ---

Will there be TI-84/87/88, etc? TI-95/97/99? What games? Quake (like the real thing)? How about Linux? The new TI-OS for the 89/92? Exciting possibilities...

cya,

Kenneth

there already is a ti-99. and ti-100. . they are really crapy though because they are not calculators. . they are old computer wanta-be's. . meaning they are like computers but smaller. . check out ti.com's site. they have a lot of info about stuff like that. . or goto ask.com and type in ti-99 :) you'll get results.

Right on! Google.com is the best search engine ever. Even if it doesn't find exactly what you're looking for, it comes up with tons of interesting and informative links.

But isn't that practically the definition of a good search engine? One that finds exactly what you're looking for?

It's good at that too, of course! It can't always find what you're looking for because it's not psychic and it can't possibly index the whole Internet. However, it finds stuff better than any other search engine I know.

And TI88 existed only four months. It had boot message "May I help you" and it was vulnerable to static electricity.

The 84 and 88 have already been made but were recalled because of ROM bugs (I think). The TI-99 is a crappy computer, not a calculator. I don't know if TI plans to make an 87. I wish they would because the 86 has lots of room for improvement.
