calc.org Hosted Sites Back In Business
Posted by Nick on 18 March 2000, 17:55 GMT

I'm posting this one from the regional Science Olympiad at Niles West, so if there's any errors, bah to you too. I'm fifteen miles away from my computer right now.
After a strenuous downtime, Dimension-TI has re-opened most of its hosted sites. You can now access CompuStarr, ZAPO, Fryed Software, Hiryu's Page, TI-FAQ, and The Void Productions, as well as CalcCity and the The MF TI Calc Page. The Rich Files are back online. They also bring the news that they have new hardware, and a new bot is under development. TCPA, the ubiquitous programming group, has announced that they will be releasing some interesting new projects soon. Destination Software has announced that they will release a public demo of Zenith Saga on March 26. Finally, both Patrick Davidson's and Joe Wingbermuehle's web sites are back online.
Thanks to Adam and all the site maintainers of Dim-TI for being so diligent in getting these sites up as soon as time allowed.

And I thought he was just still dodging my comments on ICQ bugging him to judge the Y2K contest - the vote for the top 3 to 5 was supposed to begin 2 months, 20 days, 6 hours, 35 minutes, and 37 seconds ago. Still waiting =)

Haven't these hosted sites been working for several days now? I think this news is somewhat outdated. Oh well. First Comment?

That's fixed now. Thanks.

Also, we're doing rather badly at Science Olympiad. That's because my event hasn't come yet ;-)

I'm having problems getting beta 5 to work properly, it won't accept any of my existing rom dumps. So don't go overwriting your copy of beta 4 just yet...

hmm... well i was thinking, i'm posting all this irrelevant stuff that i can't post anywhere else, so i think ticalc.org needs an unofficial news message board?

(if they already have one tell me so i can hit myself on the head 50 times)

Ok let me get this straight, Nick is miles away from his computer and manages to make an update?? How is that possible? You would need access to a computer, but are you even at a school that allows just anyone internet access? We apprectiate your devotion Nick, but how in god's name did you make this update??

Computer in our "home base" room.

1) Sat down.
2) Extended hands to keyboard to prepare typing.
3) Logged in under Novell Netware as "guest."
4) Opened Netscape.
5) Opened Notepad.
6) Typed news item.
7) Copied news item into Netscape.
8) Pressed "Process."
9) Served and enjoyed.

Pressed process? Is there some CGI thing that incorporates this into your site? You don't actually edit the index.html because that is constantly changing with CGI right?

There's a form we fill out. Nothing on the front page is edited by hand.

WAIT!!! Don't hit me on the head yet...

What I mean is like the thing they have on TI-Files and TI-News... you know where you post stuff and everyone can see what you posted... sort of like your main news page but we post stuff, not ticalc.org.

OK, NOW you can hit me on the head... make it fifty-two times. :-)

I've been wondering that too... it's driving me out of my mind not being able to do it. I think it's just part of the picture used in the title, and maybe no one can make it.

probly something like 2^(-sqrt(x^2+y^2)/pi)*cos(sqrt(x^2+y^2))
definitely involves the cosine bit
