Kirk Meyer Retires
Posted by Nathan on 20 July 1999, 02:14 GMT

Kirk Meyer, who has been a news editor, our newsletter editor, and our reviews editor, has decided to retire from those positions. He is entering his senior year in high school and will not have time to maintain these areas of ticalc.org. We are grateful for all the effort he has given us during his time in those positions.

Kirk will continue to handle miscellaneous programming tasks as we continue to improve our site. Watch for some new improvements in the future.

Thanks for the good programs Kirk. Have a nice life out of the lime-light.

Just wanted to say how surprised I am that you delete the negative comments so quickly (and there is a lot too). You should really see that you have to have 2 sides of the message board, the negative comments (maybe edit them a little) and the good side. But you only get half the opinions (less or more depending on the topic)! You also never did anything more with ur shell "Anaconda" btw. And the whole thing of hosting ur own site...thats just weird; and if you are giving up programming, do you actualy get to keep it? Afterall, it will either be a non-updated page for a few months/years or non-calc related.

He's not giving up programing. Second they have to filter the negative comments when it's supposed to be a topic where you wish the person well not wish them to hell.

Annoyed

How come they just want positive comments? I hate this suckup-thing, they just want to make their former and current members look better than they really deserve. I'd bet there's a whole lot more negative comments than positive...Let's see for how long this one will stay up.

We don't necessarily filter out /bad/ comments. However, it happens that quite a few bad comments violate our rules, i.e. swearing, etc. These are the ones that we filter out, which in many cases is quite a few of them.

I think you guys should make the archives kind of like the download.co format puting the number of times that file has been downloaded

Information similar to this can be found on the web stats page.

Well, that's kind of what reviews are for. If we showed right next to each file how many people had downloaded it, those files w/ lots of downloads would be downloaded even more. Instead, there might be a good game that nobody downloads because it doesn't have a good download number. And besides, I wouldn't put it below some authors to download their file multiple times to drive the count up.

I have an idea
Dan the Tuba Man

Here's an idea for you ticalc.org that will even make your site better! WHy not sell cds containing every program that's on your site? This would free up more server band width and make everyone happy. Sell them at the cost of what it takes to make them, it should be a non-profit thing.

Re: I have an idea

Well, the problem has to do with the CD's being outdated pretty fast, and no way to really tell after you get your CD what is current and what isn't. Also, if we can keep from selling anything at all, we'd like to do that.

We really don't have a problem with bandwidth, I don't think, but it might be a help to our modem users. However, calculator files are generally extremely small, and most allfiles.zip can be downloaded in less than an hour for sure.

I see that a lot of comments have been deleted. I think that it is interesting that none of the Ticalc.org staff have ever posted a comment in this comment board. Maybe they don't even read it, but maybe they do. They probably do a search in the board for a swear word and delete the comment, or maybe there is another way. Whichever it is, they shouldn't have rules for the comment board. After all, we are supposed to have freedom with our thoughts.

Insanely, at the time of your posting I just posted a comment to this message board, hehe.

You think we should abolish rules? Everything must have some rules. And I don't care if you're allowed to swear in literature and be protected by the law - we have rules for our message boards.

Why was my comment about those stats that I calculated deleted? What rule did that violate? I thought in order to have "web site competition", you had to have two sites..

Most of us know that you are working on tiuser.org, as was previously mentioned on this page. Comparing your output to the current ticalc.org output is just as good as trying to promote your new site seeing as you are its founder.

You have no proof of that, you haven't seen anything. That is not fair to accuse me of that. If you spent half as much time posting news articles as you do deleting comments, this site would actually be something...

Kirk, I see that you have started a fight with Bryan. Why?? He "did" do a lot of work with this site when he was a member, and if he was still a member I bet this site would be 5 times better today.

Here is what Kirk had to say:

Why? Because I don't need any of his shit, that's why. If he was still
a
member the rest of us would have gone insane.
