Calculator User Survey Posted
Posted by Andy on 22 May 1999, 23:21 GMT

We're curious what kinds of users are using ticalc.org and TI Calculators in general. For this reason, we have posted the Calculator User Survey in the survey section. If you have lost your Voter ID or Password you can use our recovery form. If you have any ideas for future polls please send them to survey@ticalc.org.

I think the survey should have had what calculators you have or use. I feel that it would be interesting to see what calculators different ages, sexes, or math classes use.

Agreed.

Andy Selle

We already ran a survey that asked that. Check back in the survey questions, I think it is the first one.

Rerun the survey I didn't get a shot :) BTW why not let us select all the math classes? Sure the last one I took was discrete, but then I've also taken dif. eq. not to mention intense classes like EMF.

Need more options.
Tip DS

There need to be more options in the section that asks for the math class last enrolled in. Some suggestions:
Differential Equations
Linear Agebra
Statistics
Logic
Chaos Theory
Discrete Math
Advanced Discrete Math
Metric Spaces
Multivariate Statistical Methods
etc.

Know what I mean?

and .07% of calculator users are in any of those classes.. where's 8th grade Mathematics at?

It should also be more open, we are not all american students, and these options are quite narrow-minded in my opinion.

why not break up other into higher math and lower math?

Mike

The average 8th grader is taking Pre-Algebra, and some take Algebra I.

and some (ahem) are in intermediate algebra (alg. 3)

I've never heard of Algebra III. I just know of Algebra and Algebra II.

Algebra III is one of those California initiatives to protect the feelings of math failures.

politically correct...
rerun

LOL

Yes, and even if you flunk it, you go on to Algebra IV, because, what the hell, you tried! And that's good enough... :P

In my school Algebra 3 is and accelerated academic senior critical thinking class

The average 8th grader isn't surfing a TI Graphing Calculator programming web-page.

Tip DS

That is too subjective. Someone in Calculus I might consider Calculus II to be "Higher Math", but someone taking Differential Equations would consider Calculus II to be elementary. Know what I mean?

You know the interresting part about this survey? Thats the gender question... Now I know that there are some female calc users out there... But how many of them know about ticalc and actually hang out here long enough to regester to vote on the surveys??

Lemme see the response to that question...

Not too many. The ones that do, normally don't want anyone to know that they are female, because they know they would get bothered all the time by fat nerds that can't get a date in the real world.

By voting on ticalc.org's user thingamabobber you aren't posting something like <made_up_example> "My name is Jane Smith. I'm 16 years old, from 3051 N Broadway, Chicago, IL. My phone number is (773)482-1810, and I hope you can call me up sometime." </made_up_example> All you're saying is that you're a guy/girl and you use calculators; by no means does that mean thousands of guy/girl nerds will ICQ you for cyber =).

Jane Smith

Why did you just give out my age, address, and phone number?

I also belive it would be interesting to see which age groups and genders use certain TI-calculators and to which mathematics courses certain calculators are appropriated.
