Street Fighter II v0.19 Beta
Posted by Kirk on 8 May 1999, 18:41 GMT

Thomas Corvazier has made a web page available to the public. The web page, among other things, contains the pre-release version 0.19 of the program that was previously posted here; v0.18 for the TI-89 and the TI-92 Plus is available from ticalc.org, while both v0.18 and v0.19 are available at the Street Fighter II web site. English users will want to use Babel Fish or another translator to translate the page from French to English.

Ticalc staff, you never responded to the authors complaint that you posted the game against his will. Is this true? Did anyone bother to translate the page before they posted the article and file and see the request that the file remain on the page, or ask for permission?

v0.19 release against author''s wishes
Adam Davis
(Web Page)

Chances are that whomever chose to put this on TICALC frequently visited their page, and when s/he saw "v0.19" s/he just ran it, and took it right away without reading about it.

It now does appear as if the authors did not want to advertise the game widely, since it's apparently very rough around the edges.

This is an unusual case, because the beta was actually posted on their web site along with the stable version. Normally versions not intended for distribution aren't posted publicly. We didn't catch on to the situation quickly enough because the web page is, of course, in French.

Had we heard about the mixup sooner, we would have yanked the file. As far as I know, the authors have not contacted us directly about removing the beta version; it's into wide circulation already, so the damage is done. Since the beta version remains available for anyone to download from their web site, the outcome is probably the same as if we had simply posted a news item pointing people there instead.

Still, I want to stress that we will honor the wishes of program authors and remove any files that weren't intended for release. We'll be as careful as possible about this in the future. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Chris

U can with some emulators. or maybe if the fargo screenshot thing has been recompiled, you could do it with a parallel link.

Just as you do when a program isn't running?

I think it depends on the software you use.

Looking at the screenshot, I'm really, really impressed.... I have only a 82 and 83, and I'm really pissed. Damn, I envy those with the TI-8/92+ calcs...... gotta get me one of these, but don't have the money... hey, who wants to buy a 82?

I'll give you US$20

Re: Re: Re: Street Fighter II v0.19 Beta
89 luster who''ll settle for an 82

Offer it for $21 and you've got yourself a deal...$25 is my highest bid.

Zelda....

(Web Page)

This is off-topic, but I was wondering about Sam Heald's port of Zelda to the 82/83 calcs.... on schedule or not? What is the URL for their website? Or did I miss something recently? Thanks, I was just wondering, since the 83 is getting kind of boring in class, with plain ol' Bombs and Boxe 2, ZTetris... and with all the excellent games coming out on the 89, I'm despairing....

I think this game is geting bigger and bigger in size. It takes a lots time to trasfer data, and the link is not fast at all :(

Re: Re: Street Fighter II v0.19 Beta
Mike

So it takes 5 minutes to copy to the calcualator, big deal.

I do think the game is getting too big though, there is no room for anything else, even after archiving all the fighters, there is barely any room for more...games.

Well my freind if you set up your calc to work the way mine does I have all the players and background loaded, plus mario, tetris, dimonds, -pipeline, columns, text files and viewer, doors Final 1.92, tunnel, falldown, frogger, one mario level, kwink and a few more games (note a total of 27 games not counting sf2t)

Either it is some super compression, you physically added more memory, or you are lying. But if you did it with some kind of software, I would love to hear about it.

the beauty of compression
KAKE
(Web Page)

doors will allow you to zip and unzip files. now, of course you have to unarchive the thing, zip it, archive it and do the exact oposite to run it, but it is possible to put a hell of a lot of stuff on your calc. it's interesting to note as well that most games are already compressed (or at least their graphics are).

Ionix

It is not physically possible for u to achieve this unless u internally upgraded the systems memory. I know that ti.com is coming out with a memory upgrade in July, adds 100k I think, but have u created ur own internal memory upgrade? Didn't think so. Haven't u learned that lying is a sin?

He is obviously using moremem. If my assumptions are right, his name is Brian Chutro and he's in my AuctoCAD class. Note: Using moremem will screw up your calculator's garbage collecting operations so don't use it. His calculator already crased 3 times in one class period.

But moremem only adds 64K to the archive, not what he is talking about.

well well well moremem does work with 100% but you have to make sure you are not loading a program that might mess it up and you are not using the newest beta of doors which contain a archive and unarchive commands built into doors. I have talled to the doors team and gave them a few ideas and we will see what happens from their... Well that is all my setup does work but it takes about 1/2 hour to load everything. Maybe if i take control of a page that I think is worth it i will post my exe. setup. Also I just sent tocalc a copy of my Text File For All THe Moves Of SF2T!!

I think he meant link play. Not transfering the game.
