Does anyone know what the "Save the Whales" option in MirageOS does?

It commandeers your calculator and the next time you connect to your computer via the graphlink, uploads a virus to your computer. Then your computer will (if you have ever bought anything online) take your credit card number and send a large donation to Greenpeace ;-)

Good. It's nice to know I'll be partly responsible for throwing red paint on people who wear fur coats.

Today, I was perusing some of the parts of this site I've never seen before. I didn't know that ticalc used to have a Program of the Month Contest! This seems like a good idea. Why did it stop? sp00n!

I was also wondering about the Program of the Month? Why'd they stop giving out that award?

What was the basis for the monthly program reward? Currently programs are rated by the number of downloads they get. Besides the featured programs, which are rated with the, what is it, blue disk icon.

What might be helpful, if not interesting, is an added rating system for files. Like (-) doesn't work, (.) fair (*) good, (**) very good, (***) a great program. Of course some kind of GIF images could be used.

Those who down load the file(s) can vote for one of the ratings. Then the average of the votes would be the rating.

Featured programs are green. The blue ones have animated screenshots. The definiton of animated, though, is kind of loose.

And While I hate to get off topic like this, you guys are right, and whatever happend to thje articles and newsletters, the stuff in the articles is some of the most interesting stuff I have ever read (I have no life) But I myself had a great idea on an article on the TI-Calculator culture lol. w00t! (My first w00t! post whatever that means.)

Programming is like taking a crap, you don't stop in the middle of making a program do you? And I hope you wouldn't stop in the middle of taking a crap.

Also like taking a crap, if I don't program for a long time, I feel constipated. Stuff just builds up inside of me. I need to let it all out once in awhile.

I disagree with your comparison of writing a program to taking a crap. Writing an entire program, IMHO, is more like several sessions on the porcelain throne and not just one. Sometimes you just need to take a rest simply because you don't always have it in you to finish it all at once.

A good and valid opinion, but I don't prefer to program that way or take a crap that way, but that's just me.

You should write your article and submit it for consideration. Maybe the ti-calc staff would look more favorably on articles and such if they didn't have to do any work. The same goes for the Program of the Month. If that were user-picked, it might catch on more than something that is judged by the already overworked staff.

PS. Congrats on your first w00t! post. You're a real h4x0r, now.

Time....there is never enough of it, it seems.

The program of the month award was on its last legs when it was essentially put out to pasture. Same goes for the newsletter, the editor of which simply didn't have time.

The sad, sorrid details of the POTM are on the web page link above

What about some kind of automatic script that allowed the USERS to pick the POTM. There could be some kind of rating system allowing the users to rate the programs they used. At the end of a month, all the programs released in that month would have their results tallied. The results could then be organized by catergories. There could even be some kind of election to vote for the POTM out of like the top five for each catergory or something. From some of the posts I've seen, there are probably bunches of users itching to write a script like this.

The articles could also be brought back if they were user-submitted. All the Administrators would have to do would be to post the articles leaving them free to work on the <!-c0u9h, c0u9h-> archives.

Of course these are all my ideas. The gods of ticalc.org don't HAVE to use them. That would be cool, though, to have that stuff back again. Personally, I never got to enjoy it the first time around.

I think people should start making more assembly programs. Theres too many basic programs and I get tired of scrolling down through them all. On the other hand, it could just be my personal opinion and everybody but me loves slow powerless basic programs.

A lot of those BASIC programs are old as dirt and were made by people who started out on BASIC and later moved to Assembly as they got better at programming (like I'm trying to do). If you want more Assembly games, then write them yourself and keep your negative attitude off of here. This is a website for all kinds of programmers, not just Ass-embly. sp00n!
