Grant:  This sounds like a great way to do things for something that will
be controlled by the person all the time, but could you make it so it can
be driven without user intervention?  I mean, I (or someobody else) could
write a driver for it to suit my needs, but could the expander firmware
handle control from a driver that wouldnt require the LCD?  Perhaps make it
possible to not have an LCD at all.
