I think ticalc.org needs to show more screenshots and in depth news items, and less "partridge in a pear tree" type news items with 4+ tidbits of news, even though they are funny.

We're working on the screenshots problem as we speak.

As far as the news items go, I'm definitely open to criticism. If people (read: you) don't like the way I'm doing things, please speak up. I can change. :)

I haven't been around here for very long, but it seems that news items become increasingly informal. I sort of like the way they are now, but they might lose their seriosity if it goes on like this. This is really not my problem, but I'd hate to see half of the news section become jokes and unimportant stuff.

As for the survey, I don't think I ever lied, because then I might not even vote at all. One vote doesn't count very much, but if everyone is (/was) serious, the survey fulfills its purpose, if it even has one.

I'd like to know if anyone ever looks at past surveys. I know I don't.

I look at old survey all the time; the one about gender had some really interesting comments. Its good stuff! I'm glad ticalc.org has the foresight to preserve their past.

I've changed since last year, haven't I? :P

At any rate, if people really do want to see more serious news items, as Harper proposes, I'll do that.

Contrary to popular opinion, I _am_ flexible on this issue, and I'm willing to entertain input.

I really didn't expect to generate this much feedback. I like that people respect my opinion that much. I don't think I was that clear in what direction I think the news articles should go to.

I like the informality of the news articles, I just think that when you put news about 5 things in one article, there isn't much information that someone viewing the page can see about that program. I think that informality is great, since it makes me (and others) have a greater sense of belonging (i would have used comaraderie, but that word sounds kind of gay and I am unsure about the correct spelling) to the ti community. It also helps someone who may not have that great of a technical knowledge feel comfortable with the topic.

As to what I would like to see, a more in-depth analysis of the new/updated programs than:
"Sam Heald ported Wormy v1.0 to the 82. This is a port of Matt Shepcar's incredibly 31337 game. Aside from the *ahem* cryptic readme, this game is really good. Check it, yo!"

Now, if I did not know Sam Heald, or hadn't heard of the fabulous trig routines that Shepcar made for this game, I would probably bypass this game, since there was not really information about it. What I would have liked to seen is some information about what separates this game from the traditional snake clones, the non-orthagonal, 360 degree motion. A screenshot would have looked nice also. But this game was only a port, so it shouldn't have gotten a news item.

Nevertheless, you should be able to get my drift from this longer message. Thanks for your concern,

-harper

Heh, fabulous trig routines? Shepcar has made some really cool routines, like the ones used for that rotating tourus demo. But the trig routines are simple...just a simple lookup!

Nick... you totally suck... go crawl back in your little geek hole and only use big boering words that only we (the calc geek kind) would understand... heh... j/j... I think the Nickized articles add a little spice to what is a pretty bland world... I mean, where else have you seen "The real slim shady" used in such a creative way on an article describing a calculator event/program....

Yeah, but I think their major concern is that 'The Real Slim Shady' doesn't describe any part of the program itself. It's just like calling someone 'Bob' out of the blue.

I think there is a lack of news articles on this site. The news seems to not be updated very often.

It just seems that way because you don't have an 89. There are plenty of news articles, but too few for the 82-86.

This also stems from the problem that no programs are being written for those calculators anymore.

Well, Zelda is coming around August for the 83(+) so I'm sure that will be large (good) enough for a news item. Right?

on june 27, there were more programs posted for the 83, 83+, and 86 separately than all 68k calcs combined

there are relatively few games being developed this time of year because people are out doing things that tend to impede programming, and there are no boring math/science classes for the programmers to sit through

as for the lack of programs for the z80 calcs, there is merely a dearth of newsworthy programs, not a dearth of programs. i have written several simple basic chemistry programs for my 89 and have ported many of them to my 83, 85, and/or 86 so i know firsthand that there are programs being released for the z80 calcs

Uhhh. Ya more screenshots. I would just love all of the extra time it would take for the page to load up because there is a screenshot/animation of some stupid program for another calculator. Maybe make a link to the screenshot. DON'T put them on the main page.
Just my 2 cents :)
