I think it seems noticeably faster than before (especially dynamic pages like search and the file upload form).

Kinda, but for me it's not that big of a difference (maybe 50ms faster)

Yay! My first ever news comment!

I think the new server is great. I am noticing it is faster, especially from these slow school computers. However, I'm not noticing much of a change from my home system, because I've got FiOS (which, by the way, is the best thing ever - if you don't have it, get it).

Hacking a TI-81 to be a web server would be fun, although the overload would probably cause it to burst into flames.

Oh, yes, and FiOS means Fiber Optic Service. It works by using light in mirrored cables to transmit data, as opposed to phone or cable signals. It might not be available in your area, but if it is, you can get it from Verizon or Comcast.

Um, no. Comcast "Fiber" doesn't run all the way into your house. FiOS (a Verizon service) runs fiber-optic cable onto your property, into your house.

Comcast's "all fiber network" is still running on Coax (at least in all the areas here) once it gets into the neighborhood. It's still provided on the same old unreliable spliced-together coax that went out on a weekly basis years ago.

I regularly get 26 down/22 Mbps up on the basic bottom-of-the-line 15/5 Mbps FiOS plan. Comcast came by soliciting the other day and they were bragging how they could offer us 10Mbps download speeds a few weeks ago, I almost laughed.

I almost always use school/library computers and on average they're fast. Voted "I didn't notice anything changed"

But it's too late to change it...how ironic.

The server is now located in Germany, which is about 250ms (a quarter second) away from most places in the United States.

It seems slower here. Hopefully that is a transient problem with my ISP.

The TI-81 is pretty good, but you should seriously consider upgrading to at least a TI-85.

We considered it, but since the TI-81 now has ASM capabilities, we felt we could hold off a little longer. :-)

Same here, except for the search engine (which took like 10-20 seconds to respond before)

Yeah, same here, but I also saw several other improvements in terms of speed, so I voted "It's great" (I'm the only person to have voted that).

How did the "What new server?" option get a majority?

Obviously because there are some wise-A**es out there who want to be funny. And in reality, they're not.

I noticed faster loading times for downloading files, but other than that, pretty much the same.

That's kinda funny because I voted that I didn't notice, and I wasn't trying to be funny. I seriously didn't notice, but then again, I tend to be very oblivious, as I watch TV while I wait for webpages to load.

I interpreted it as a witty alternative to, "Didn't notice a change," which is why I chose it. =]
