I wonder if there will be a new OS for the TI-83+ in the future.

perhaps... but it might not be possible since the TI-83 has less CPU power and rom...

not sure though... but assuming that the new OS already runs slow on the TI-84, the TI-83 with a weaker OS may be even slower...

There may be, but it would be slower, and you would have less free RAM, at least on a normal 83+ (2.53MP takes advantage of one of the 84's extra RAM pages)

Depending on if the 83+ is bought as much. If the 84+ and 84+SE outsell the *3+ and 83+SE, there is no need for TI to make an OS for it. I don't know their sales, though, so it could go either way...

How about a third-party OS? That would be awesome-licious.

I can't imagine there'd be any significant technical reason why they couldn't release this new OS (or something like it) for the TI-83+SE.

It has the faster CPU, the spare RAM banks, etc. But they'd need a commercial incentive to release it, and that just doesn't exist. By now, surely any TI83+SE's out there are long outside their warranty period, so TI doesn't have any obligation to go out of their way to support them. And TI would rather you pay for a brand new calculator to get new features, than simply download new features for an old calculator for free.

The original TI-83+, as noted above, has technical limitations such as CPU speed and memory limitations, which might make supporting an OS like this one impractical.

I refuse to vote until someone adds an option saying
"I upgraded, but I will now downgrade"

I am not sure if they can add options to polls. They have not during any of the times I visited this site.

Okay, then. I'll just have to vote for "not in a million years"

Correct, polls are more or less immutable. I'd have to go edit the database directly to add an option after publishing the poll.

Yes, i would love to downgrade myself. My calculator, after upgrading, is now basically frozen. Mem Resets don't work, neither does reinstalling the OS, or changing the batteries.

Anyone know where i can get 2.43?

Interesting, I can't guess why it doesn't work...
Unfortunately, with the release of the 2.53MP, it is now illegal to distribute older versions of the OS, 2.43 obviously included.
Maybe you'll find someone kind enough to e-mail you a copy. Some sites may still have it. (i.e. places like http://ti.bank.free.fr/)

Why would it be illegal to distribute older versions?

Just read the license you've accepted, when downloading OS 2.43 (for example) from TI web site.

Nothing is said against hosting the files...

It is explained how to "copy" the files legally: we have to keep a readable copy of the license with the files.

I probably thought that because, like most people, I do not have a copy of the license. my bad :)

hmm... really?

mine seems to be running perfectly and completely unaffected in anyway...

except for the xlib portion...

but i think the new features the OS provides definitely makes it worth it...
