I got my TI84+SE for 10 dollars off at Circuit City, right after they came out. I got a better deal than Office Max or Best Buy had.

$10? How is that possible? Ti-84+SEs sell for about $130 on amazon.com!

My very first calculator was a TI-83 that I got for Christmas in 1999. I also have one TI-83+ that I bought, a few TI-83+s that I found, a TI-89 a classmate gave me, a TI-86 I bought from another classmate for $20, and a TI-73 I bought from a classmate for $30. I also had a TI-82, but I'm not sure where that went.

Oh, I forgot to mention the TI-84+SE I bought for $115 at BestBuy. I dropped in a week later and the screen cracked. :'''(

Ouch. Usually TI's calcs are sturdier that that.

yeah, just a couple of weeks ago, I dropped my 89, and half of the screen flickered away. So we took apart the calculator and resoldered the contact points back together. And now it works!

I've dropped my fleet of 83+s many, many times, onto surfaces like concrete from my pocket or hand, and no ill effects came of it. Two feet for the new 84 design, and the screen crack severed half the traces in the glass. :(

Really? I dropped my 84+SE almost every day. It never broke, except for when I fried it's circuit board. But I fixed that now; it'll turn on.

I guess Silver Editions are sturdier...

I've been thinking about overclocking my 84+SE, but are the plans for overclocking of 83+es compatible with the 84+SEs?

Not that I know too much about it, I think that the 83+ plans won't work, because the circuits are different, and also they will look different, so it will be harder to do without a manual. Well, in case you do try, good luck...

There's no problem with "circuitry" being incompatible, the problem is the case layout in the 84s. With the USB port, it's much more cramped inside and therefore more challenging to put extra stuff inside the case.

You replace one of the internal components that governs the processor speed to make it go faster.

See. what confuses me, is that why doesn't TI overclock their calculators in the manufacturing stage? They'd go about 3-4 times faster.

Ever think about the battery usage? The more a calculator or computer uses its processor, the more power it has to use.

1. If you overclock to 12MHz from 6MHz, your battery goes twice as fast. There's an inverse relationship between speed and battery life.
2. BASIC programs would run insanely fast, and LCD timing must be permenantly messed up, not to mention USB timing.

I've dropped my 83+ regular many times. Twice down the stairs. It hasn't broken at all. I also have an 89 titanium which fell out of my pocket when I was running once and bounced around on the concrete. Still works great. As far as I can tell, these things are bulletproof!

I've dropped my 84+SE many times from desks and it is fine. Nothing has happened to it. 84+SE's RULE! (for now)

Mine from Wal-Mart survived a acetone (or similar) spill ina chem lab. Melted the ON key down so it wouldn't do anything but turn on and off. Took it apart and filed the key loos and it was good as new. Those 84s must just be crap.
