I voted 56 kbps because I never rarely take my 14.4 kbps computer on the internet. Just to slow

I have my school's >T1 line. I have no idea what that extrapolates to me having. At home, we have ~3-4mb/s cable. When we had dialup, however, we got ~4kb/s. Not fun.

I love school networks. You get such blazing fast download speeds, and inter-network transfers are even faster. It makes using software like myTunes so great, because you download the songs in < 1 second. I love downloading and seeing things like "speed: 3678 kB/s"

My high school had DSL until my senior year, then they got a T1. I am not quite sure how they can afford it (it is a private Christian school), but the DSL was *way* too slow with 20+ students trying to use it at a time (there were only about 600 students total).

Private schools never run out of money.

It's sad, but I don't know. I have a DSL hookup, and I love it! (very fast)

My Verizon Online DSL service just got activated today!!! :) I'm so happy even though it's the 768k one.

I have a cable modem to use the internet and it is very fast. I don’t need a faster connection than 4Mbps.

I'd take 768kbps DSL any day over this crap 512kbps cable!

Interesting question.

I'm currently sitting on a University pipe, with 10Mbps intranet pipes, hooked up to a pair of (IIRC) 40Mbps pipes to the internet (through 2 different providers -- AT&T and Fast.net). However, I'm also sitting behind a traffic shaper that limits my outbound to the internet to 500Kbps, so that's the option I chose.

Yes, I work for the campus IT people.

Hmm, up at UAkron I was able to get 1MB/s (megaBYTE) up AND down at the same time once, over 802.11b. That only happened once. After they put .11g access points in my dorm it seemed to have slowed down. :-\ But it's still peppy! I got 5MB/s (!!!!!) once on a wired connection where I work (where all the old computers from campus come after they die or get replaced).

It appears my college limits bandwidth with a client-side program. At least, the Windows users get a maximum around 400-600KB/s, while I get that on average & max over 10MB/s. Silly IT people who ignore Linux (yet they run Unix on their servers...). :)

Depends... how fast is your LAN? 100Mbps is the connection between your home network, but what really counts is how fast the connection is to the internet... ;) I have a 3.0Mbps connection ^_^

I got 5Mbps down and 512Kbps up. But it never runs at that, even when it does work. I hate you Time Warner!!!

Wow, the poll so far seems evenly divided among several categories.
