86: Yes, many times, works fine

92+: I think so

89 Titanium: Once, I left my bag on a desk, and due to weight it slid on the side, and since it was open, my 89t slid out, sild off the desk, on the seat, and then slid on the floor. Thank god for the dirable cases, though it made a bang like a gunshot.

last year this girl in my calc class had a 89 where the right 1/2 was really dim. a teacher fixed it for her by hitting it.

Actually, early computers HAD to be banged around for them to work. The Apple III, for example (yes, there was, for a brief amount of time, an Apple III), had no cooling fan. The heat from the electronics caused the circuit board to warp and the solder to get soft, causing the chips to pop out of their sockets! Tech support's response to angry customers was to literally bang it on their desk!

but what is really funny (well at least to me, so don't flame me ;) was the Apple I that didn't even have a case. i read that most consumers just built their own custom fit wooden case. oh, don't flame me with responses as to how good or bad Apple is, i don't want to get into that again.

That's gotta be the worst-made electronic device in history...

Actually, the instruction was to lift it about three inches and then drop it.

And it was in the manual, in the troubleshooting section.

My used TI-81 was slammed against the floor before, and it acts up sometimes. I just slap it against my hand.

I know that when other people drop their calculators, I wince, say "ow, that was painful," and get stares.

Am I alone?

Never had that experience because all the other calcs owned by classmates are scientific *GASP*

feel sorry for you. in my class, no one owns below a 84+SE, and i only have a 83+SE :( my sister took the 84+SE.

Only recently I noticed a few 89s and 83+/84+SE models around, but not much :-/

No, it just means you are sensitive to the calcs around you. I wince and say "ow" all the time when any calculator is dropped. While other people may be thinking about the inconvenience of having to pick up the calc again, I am concerned for its welfare.

I try not to drop my calc if I can avoid it.

However, I have the pleasure of knowing someone at my school who dropped their 83+ SE with the link cable in. The tip broke off inside the link port and now the the calc is isolated. Very sad...

someone i know had something stuck in their link port, and their genius idea to get it out was to put glue on the end of a link cable and pull it out, and now the broken-off end of a link cable is stuck in the link port forever. it doesn't affect him much, though, because he has 1(broken) 83pse, 1 83p(link port clogged), 1 83p (link port fine), and 1 89ti... and he only knows how to program 83p basic.

They get used to it after awhile.

But I didn't really have to: my math teacher would threaten to take their calcs into an abuse-protection program, they would have to use a four-function for the rest of the year, and she would keep their graphing or scientific.

That's excellent! We should set up a hotline for abused calculators!

I started my 83+ abuse quick enough; it fell in a lake about 2 weeks after I got it (homework and fishing dont mix) it bobbed with a little air in it, then I grabbed it. I took it home, opened it up and air dried it. That was 4 years ago and it still works. Both my 83+ and 89t have held up to some rough use. Their definitely robust.

God yes! It happens all the time in my Chem class. The sound of a Ti-83+ hitting that ...lonolium (?)... floor is the most non-ambiguous thing ever. It hurts.

Back in high school, I had a math teacher (Hon Alg II) who would exclaim "WATCH OUT!" every time someone would drop a calculator. Naturally, by the end of the year, we were trying to invent something that sounded 'calculator-like 'when it hit the ground just to provoke him.
