When I get a job, I'm going to bring my calc(s) anyway, even if they're "inappropriate." I just need some bigger pockets.

I don't buy pants unless the pockets are big enough to hold both my calcs comfortably at the same time.

No job, no classes, but a lot of calculator use BTW. I *am* 16, but I just turned recently so I don't think there would be many places I could get a summer job, and I also probably won't have time with this horrible driving school where I'll have to go soon.

That reminds me of trying to fit a TI-92+ in my pocket. Surprisingly, it does fit in the pockets of some of my pants.

I bet you got a lot of comments and weird looks. I do with my handheld 89T! It just feels so powerful having it in my pocket!

Yes, half the people I know think it's strange that I carry around my calcs, but what do they know? :-P

The question I have for you guys, is do you have a specific WAY that you put them in your pocket, to avoid the slide cover coming off and other things like that? I used to ALWAYS have my 89 with me (until the screen shattered) and I would keep it upsidedown with the battery side facing away from me...it was most comfortable that way, and gravity held it in the slide cover. Please tell me I'm not crazy. ;)

No, you're not crazt. I keep one in each pocket, with the link port on the bottom (it sits at the bottom of my pocket anyways, so there's no chance of the case coming off) and the battery door against my leg. It seems easier that way to quickly pull it out for a game of Bubble Bobble, although maybe I should try your way and see what it's like.

haha i've been carrying my ti83+ in my pockets everyday for 3 years until I got a TI89Titanium. The titanium does indeed feel powerful.
Nowadays I walk around with my two calculators in the same pocket. Cargo pants can do wonders.

I'm 15 and I've had a job since I was 14. Don't get paid too much, but its enough. I used to bring my 83plus and sometimes my 89titanium to work and do some programming during my break. I stopped because of the dangers of fries falling on my calculator (I work at a McDonald's) and ketchup.

You worked at McDonald's when you were 14?!?!?! I thought US child-labor laws prevented that (unless you aren't American).

Yes, I am an American but the US child-labor laws allow 14yo to work as long as they don't do certain things. For example, all I can do at McDonald's is take orders, get food, give the food to the customer and box fries. I cannot cook anything. So I don't have the pleasure of making sandwiches or cooking fries.

I wouldn't say it was collecting dust because it's in my backpack still, but it does sometimes collect a bit of lint in the various cracks.

I think it's essential that I use my TI-89Ti, being a professional programmer for it. Does VTI count, too?

Considering that VTI often produces different results than a real calculator when it crashes (because the emulation is not perfect), I would say it only counts when things work properly. & even so, my color program (check the picture at the link) does not work on any emulator. :)

That stuff's dangerous!

But what if someone were to control it. Hacked color games. Lol.

2 things.
Zeroth, I have run it numerous times, & I have yet to have any problems, but of course, it might just be that my calculator is more durable than average.
First, vertical columns can only be all 1 color, or plain grayscale results. The demo above looks fine, but I tried writing "RGB" in the correct colors, & although they looked very slightly tinted, it was mostly just a smeared dark yellow & gray mess.

I thought the color was produced by manipulating the image on the screen, not by writing commands to some strange hardware port that controls the LCD, like on the 83+. In that case, it shouldn't be any more damaging than any other program.

I would agree, unless (because it writes the screen at twice the refresh rate) it stresses it somehow else.
