My grandparents bought me a TI-92 back in 1998. I upgraded it to a TI-92 Plus a few months later. In the meanwhile, I found a TI-85 at Target for $40 in 1999. Then my TI-92 Plus busted, so I sent it back to TI and they sent me a new TI-92 Plus in 2001. I picked up a TI-83+ on eBay in 2003. Last month, a guy at my school sold me a TI-89 for $75. So now I have four graphing calculators. All of them work great. Mostly I have them to loan to my friends at school for tests.

I've had my own 84+silver for about 9 months. Previously I used my parents 81 for 2 yrs. before I got my 84. The 81 had some awesome math programs I wrote for my math competitions, but unfortunately its RAM cleared and I can't get them back. I learned to program on my brothers 83+silver about 2 yrs., so I decided it was time to get my own calc. Anyways check out Bandit a basic rpg for the 83+/84+ series and send me some feedback. The map is almost finished now and I will get another release out soon. I'm progressing on writing the cave walking sequence, but have had some delay as I lost my RAM and have to make up a weeks worth of work. Email me at chessfreak2007@yahoo.com just to see if my email works.

I got my first graphing calc (a TI-86) in eighth grade (2 years ago) for Algebra II. They were required. It was fun learning to program it... Good times. I got an 89 Titanium last summer, or whenever they came out.

I've had my TI-89 Titanium for less than a year. I ordered a TI-84+ SE on eBay and the seller was out of stock, so I ended up getting the TI-89 Titanium for only $70. It was a pretty good deal, if you ask me ;p

i have had a ti 84 since the start of this year....

i would like a ti 89t but QSA (Queensland Studies Authorities) would not let me have one

this was the reason "the ti-89 does too much for you"

....doh

I know how you feel. The australian education systems are all very strict on calculators.

When the 83+SE was released, I was so close to buying one, before learning that they were not allowed in VCE.
Now that the 84+ and 84+SE are released, they are allowing them in 2006. [Two years too late for me though]

Um, yeah, owned my first 83+ for 6 years now. Bought a second 83+ 3 years ago [wanted a 68K calc, or at least an 83+SE, but it wouldnt have been much use. Except for programming =P].

Well in 8th grade, I bought an 83+SE for Algebra 1, and it was really cool, and everyone liked it. Only me and a friend of mine had an 83+SE in the whole junior high, but my teacher told me that we couldn't use it in school because of the built-in apps that "could help you cheat". Both of us got so mad at her, and it got even worse when she said we couldn't even used them if we cleared our calculators (I hadn't known about ticalc.org yet so I really didn't care what was on it). Eventually she relented after we threatened to take it to the principal.

I think my teacher really wanted to fail me for almost embarrasing her, but she couldn't because I kept getting perfect or near-perfect scores on the tests :-)

The 89T is too big. What was TI thinking?

Sorry. I don't own a 89T but I do own an original 89 HW1. However, I would not trade any 89 for an 84. I like to higher resolution screen much better.

I hear you on that one. I hooked the link cable up to my old TI-83+SE that the link port fatigued and then ceased to work. Thus, my calculator was "marooned" (so to speak), so I decided I might as well try to mod it out. Alas, my attempt to power it with a 9V battery failed when I forgot to use a resistor and my calc just died. Fortunately, I was able to get a TI-84+SE, with which I am very pleased.

The good thing about the 84+silver is that you can wear out two link ports before you get marooned.

Can you solder? Or do you know someone who can? Replacing the physical link port receptacle should be a trivial thing to do.

this was before I had a computer, so the link cable was only calc to calc and wasn't used much.

I wore it out programming it in BASIC. it never saw ASM in it's life and was never dropped. I was just playing it one day and the screen went blank and it resetted. Any time you would try to run anything on it from that point on it would power down. Replaced all the batteries and it still would not work, So it died after three years and I went out and got a new one.

I've never had that happen to me, and I've spent quite a bit of time programming my calcs...

Strangely, I've never had a link port wear out on my calculators. But my PC link cable did wear out. :-) After about four or so years of use it started working only after I spent time wiggling the cable and finding just the right position. It kept getting worse, until one day I spent an hour and still couldn't get it to work.

So a couple of days later I went out and bought the Silverlink USB cable (which turned out being free after mail-in rebate) and I've been using that since.
