Hey! British spelling of the word "favorite". I, for no good reason, prefer the British spelling of words. Like; colour... Shoot. I can't think of any other dual-spelt words. Oh well. Seeing as how this is waaaay off topic anyway, I (with my friends) am trying to form a club at my school to play videogames. Details as they appear.

Do you spell yoghurt like that? I've heard you miss out the H. Also, cars have tyres. We go travelling. We don't watch "movies in a theater" but "films in a cinema". We aren't "smart", more "intelligent".

What's wrong with intelligent? I hear that sometimes... but, yeah, I guess I do hear "smart" much more often.

Also, on some internet games, I've seen "You loose!" before. Now, of course, I laughed because I thought the person couldn't spell... but, could this possibly be a different spelling of the word (for a different country?)

Completely OT: Has anybody noticed how much slower the HW1 calcs are!? It makes playing games a lot easier (and in some cases, a lot less exciting).

i don't know how y'all pronounce it "over there."
i've always pronounced it with a long "o" like in yo-yo, and a hard "g" as in gertrude. and also, with stress on the first syllable.

do y'all still say "jolly" and "bloody" all the time?

I barely say jolly, but I frequently use bloody and 'oh bugger' and the likes.

Theatre, metre, most any word with "er". Colour is one as you pointed out, and most words spelled with "or".

Would "shoot" be spelled "shootte"? That's more like Old English, I guess. :-)

Actually, I think "Theatre" and "Theater" are different, but I could be wrong...and prolly only different in the British version...

Only other word I can think of that's different (or mainly British, anyhow) is "whilst"...and apparentally my school doesn't like it...put it in a paper, and she marked it, saying "use while instead"...excuse me for inserting a bit of cultural diversity in my paper about booting up my computer!

They are different:
Theater= The performance
Theatre= The building where theater is performed.

As an American, I use "theater" as in "movie theater", which falls into your definition for "theatre".

Maybe I'm just ignorant of the difference, or the American language just makes no distinction between the two words.

Well... looks like British spellings of words are more commonly used than I thought. Intriguing. I wonder what other parallels there are betwixt the Brits and Americans.
