Okay.  What interface should it communicate at and at what update speed?

TI's interface is good...but RS-232 is easy.  Don't start harping about
RS-232 on calcs.  If you don't think it will work, try it.  300-1200 baud
is possible on a good set of batteries...and since this thing is in a car
you have pelnty of them.
