You'd have to kiss TI protocol transfers goodbye in this case. You're
going to be using a half duplex channel with large delays, and the TI
protocol isn't exactly adapted to this.

You could emulate the other TI, ie have the TI send the program to the
microcontroller and then have the microcontroller send it, but you'll need
a fair chunk of scratch RAM for that (upwards of 128K for a TI-86/89), and
your regular PIC has much less than a K.

Using a full duplex link, ie something like a 27mhz FM circuit out of a
cordless phone, seems more ideal. And about the only thing you'll lack in
this case is range. The 50 metres that a 27MHz circuit provides you, would
be more than adequate for most uses.
