Re: TI-H: EL backlighting [was Re: y2k]

Wow, my message actually got thru, I've been unable to post for about a
month, something weird happening with the DNS system here I guess (most mail
worked, but the SMTP server couldn't seem to get connected to the mail
exchanger for ticalc.org).

Anyway, a while back I tried to announce that I was selling EL backlights
again, with a new inverter.

Heres the basic info. Its smaller, its less power hungry, and its cheaper
($25 currently).
At the moment I have to hand produce the PCB's, but I'm working on getting
professional PCB's etched from my layout (which, surprisingly, is both
cheaper and faster than doing them myself).

Kits are a bit less polished, for $25 you get the EL lamp and the inverter,
no wires, no insulation. Instead of putting insulation on the lamp itself,
I now recommend putting insulation (ie electrical tape) on the calculator.
One layer on the LCD PCB, around the edges where the EL lamp will lay, then
another layer over the edges of the lamp. This is much less time-consuming
than insulating the lamp itself, and actually gives better protection, and
at the same time holds the lamp still.

I also posted a discussion about the Lumitex fiber optic LED backlighting
product on my web page at:

http://www.genetech.net/~dknaack/lumitex.html

Note that it is not linked from my main page yet.

I posted this info after a request for interest/information from Aaron
Peterson was sent to several backlighting people.
