Are you sure on that Quantum BBS? I'd like to look it up and see
what I can find out about AOL's history.
Apparently RIP is still in use, RIPTerm is being marketed on the 'net

It says it supports millions of colors.
A quick search shows that the software that my favorite BBS used
has gone to Linux http://www.falkenbbs.com Cool
A 4 node license is shareware.
