RE: TI-H: Why expander? Why compress? Use a FDD!

okay, for now, it's a bit overpriced. however, for the future, it would be pretty good. Provided we see a continued stream of programs coming in, and that insane QuickCam idea gets off the ground, a floppy could be useful. Also, it would work great for the network. regardless of the price, that 500MB+ server module for the CalcNet will be hideously expensive, and I doubt that you need all of that space. We could store most server data on a floppy, helping out in terms of mass storage (Well, for the TI's, 1MB is massive)
Another thought: I know that the CalcNet will never be finished. It will be released, but Grant will want to add more features every week, and the CalcNet will come with a free dose of built in obsolescence. Add a floppy drive, and instead of Grant having to send out new chips, he sends out AVR code (encrypted is necessary), and one AVR reads the data and updates the code! Kind of like a flash ROM BIOS update on a PC. There are applications for it, we just need to wait for the price to be more reasonable.

Ah...well that's a nice...uhm...number...for...uhm...a...price...
I don't think i'm gonna spend $160 on a floppy drive for my calc...i can
build an EEPROM expander for a LOT less...
