I think it was PiCMageZ, thanks.  I will try it out.  Also, thx all for the
input on the checkerboard drawing, I will try them too.  Busy working on
Sword of Might, which oughta be a good (at least for BASIC anyway) RPG
game - I'll post it on my site (http://fly.to/raptorware) and on Ticalc when
I make a demo good enough to go on.
