As far as I know, step-by-step in NOT part of the current AMS 2.03 software. It may be available as a download (program). You can step thru problems, manually for example;
3x - 27 = 0 {Enter}
Display: 3 * x - 27 = 0
+27 entry displays as: ans(1)+27
Display: 3 * x = 27
/3 entry displays as: ans(1)/3
Display: x = 9
