To the best of my knowledge, the HP28C, in 1987, was the first calculator
with symbolic manipulation.  I believe it was also the first graphing
calculator.  I know this was HP's first symbolic/graphing calculator, and I
know it predates anything from TI, but there may be some obsure company that
beat them to it...

(BTW, is there anyone out there willing to sell me an HP28 in good condition
with manuals for under $100?)
