The best thing way to avoid this problem (if I understand your problem) is
to store data using variable names of more than one letter.  For example,
if you store to "x", whenever x is used in a problem the calc will give
you a specific solution (using the stored value) rather than the general
solution.

If you store to "x1" or "num" or any variable name other than a single
letter, you can avoid being surprised.  Of course you still have to do
some periodic housekeeping.
