Back in the very early days of the IBM PC, the only software and operating system came from IBM. The software looked for the letters IBM in ROM BIOS. Clone makers were successful by either "burning" a PROM on a copy stand (which was illegal -but worked), or by simplying putting the statement, "This is not an IBM computer" in a manufactured ROM. Of course now 16 years later, all that makes absolutely no difference. WSB
